How We Met: We were in the same year at school from the age of 11. He knew who I was. I knew who he was yet we never spoke. When Facebook came along we added each other because “we were in the same year”. But again never spoke. 4 and a half years later he sent me a message commenting on my new hair style. We started talking and 3 days later he asked me out on a date. We’ve been together ever since.
how they asked: We went to New York for Thanksgiving and until the Christmas lights switched on. While we were there it was our 2 year anniversary. I wanted to book a day full of once in a lifetime experiences. My all time favourite film is Serendipity so he suggested we go ice skating then to the Plaza for afternoon tea then finish the day off with a frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity and a moonlit trip to the 102nd floor of the Empire State Building.
On our way to the Wolman Rink, we walked through Central Park. Passing over a bridge Andrew stopped me and told me i was his best friend and that he’s never met anyone like me before. I wasn’t expecting a proposal so I asked if I could go run through the park like Pheobe does on FRIENDS. We walked further down the path and come to this little secluded park that went into the lake. Andy asked me to make sure I got a good photo.
Then he said “Rachel”.
I turned round and he was on one knee. what he said was a bit of a blur because I was an emotional wreck. But I remember he said my full name and asked me if I would marry him. Once I’d managed to speak I said “YES!!”
As if it wasn’t perfect enough – he pulled out a letter from my mum and dad giving us their blessing and telling me that Andy had asked for their permission.
We then went to Tiffany’s and met the man who Andrew had ordered the ring from from all the way back in the UK.
