How We Met

Our story started in 2012 when my best friend and I decided to book a spontaneous cruise to Mexico. We packed our bikinis and jumped on the boat excited for a weekend girls trip filled with tequila shots and too much sun.

Paul was taking the summer interns on the cruise as a work incentive, and it wasn’t long before we all met. We discovered that we had a friend in common (shout out Michael Marchand!) and the conversation kept rolling. He jokingly told me he loved me before the boat even left the dock (his cheesy pick-up line) and little did we know we’d be planning a wedding three years later!

The trip soon came to an end, but we didn’t stay away from each other for long. We went on a date the next weekend, and the next thing we knew we were together multiple nights a week…every week. I couldn’t stay away from him; we were inseparable.

how they asked

Paul grew up in Utah, so throughout our three years of dating he spent a lot of time showing me its beauty. He had particularly told me about Moab and how gorgeous it was, but unfortunately we never were able to squeeze it into our short weekend trips. We were just about to move into our own place, and Paul thought it would be a good idea to take in a little weekend trip before the craziness of moving started.

He was in the middle of opening a new office in Utah, so he flew up a day before me to get a few things done before I flew in late Friday night. He picked me up from the airport and we drove straight to Moab, arriving around 2AM.

He told me there was a cool sunrise hike up to Delicate Arch which sounded awesome, so we woke up at 5AM, put on our headlamps and 20 layers of clothing and started up. It was 25 degrees and completely dark, but as the sun came up I was slowly able to see the miles and miles of bright red rock under my feet. It was one of the most beautiful things I’d ever seen. After about a two mile hike, we finally arrived and enjoyed the view for about 30 minutes before the sun started rising and slowly lighting up the arch.

He grab my hand and walked me down to the arch, where he started telling me everything I dreamed of hearing before he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!! I still can’t get into words the feeling I had at that moment as he held me under this massive landmark and I bawled my eyes out.

My hand was frozen cold, but I couldn’t put my glove back on because I couldn’t stop staring at the rock on my finger! #iceicebaby
