How We Met
My fiancé and I met our freshman year in college. He was my Biology lab partner. I went almost the whole semester without even knowing his name but I looked forward to ever Thursday. I always walked him to his next class as it was on my way to my dorm but we never hung out other than that. Monday April 13, 2015 i asked Austin to my sorority formal. I handed him a rain soaked piece of paper that said rock paper scissor lizard Spock formal? As the Big Bang Theory was one of both of our favorite shows.
We started dating May 11, 2015 and not long after I fell head over heels in love with him. Austin has always wanted to join the military and that summer our city was a victim of a terrorist attack were 5 service members were killed. He knew it was his time to join so that November he went and swore into the Navy. He left for boot camp that following June. I have always known he was the one, but spending 7 weeks without your person with the only communication being letters once a week you really realize how much you really love them.

On Labor Day weekend Austin was suppose to get a long weekend off so he planned on coming to Gatlinburg with me and his family for their reunion. Unfortunately he found out that he had duty and couldn’t leave base that Sunday. Instead of going to Gatlinburg, I went to Charleston myself to visit him for the first time since August. We had already decided that we were going to get married, most likely in February when he was suppose to get leave. He had told me he wanted to go ring shopping while I was there so that he knew what kind of rings I liked. Little did I know that he already had one. That night we went out for a nice dinner since it was the first time we had seen each other.
Before dinner we went down by the battery to walk along the pier. As we are standing there a photographer came up to us to ask if he could take some pictures of us (which wasn’t planned at all by Austin) so Austin went down to give him his email so we could get the pictures. When he came back he told me he was going to take some more pictures of us and when I asked how he wanted us to stand he says “I’ve actually been lying to you all day and I actually already have a ring” so there standing by the water, the same way he asked me to be his girlfriend, he asked me to be his wife.
Even though we had planned to get married in February, the military has changed our original plans and we are now getting married in December of this year.
