How We Met: Kara and I met in 2003 at a mutual friends party. We hit it off but I was going away to school and we didn’t share enough time to try a long distance relationship. For the next 4 years I always thought about Kara and asked myself what could of been. On a trip to Rome with friends in August 2007 I made a wish at the Trevi Fountain that the next time I came back it would be with Kara. 2 Months after I made that wish destiny intervened and put us in each others lives again. She was living in a house with an extra room and her and her friends needed a roommate. I volunteered and Kara and I both agreed to be just friends. We quickly fell in love and started dating in May 2007.
The Proposal: I knew Kara was the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with long ago so after over 5 years of dating I decided it was time to let her know. We had been planning a trip to Europe for over a year and Rome was a city we were going to visiting. I knew Rome would be the perfect city to make this proposal special not only for her but for me. So I started to think what I could do to make the proposal unique. I am a huge movie fan and watching movies was one of the things that really brought us together when we started dating again. I knew there were certain movies that she loved and meant a lot to her. So I decided that I would make a video where I would be talking to Kara basically going over “Our Story.” I took some scenes from some of her favorite movies and incorporated them into our story. With a little help from my friend Michael Gonzales the movie was beautifully put together. Now all that was left was to find someone to film the entire process in Rome. Through a friend I found Marin Finerty and she helped with the setup. Kara thought we were going to meet some people for a formal sunset viewing with wine. But that wasn’t true at all. Marin had set up a camera and she sat Kara down and asked her to watch a video.
And the rest as they say is history. After the video I let her know how lucky she made me feel. I could barely hold it together looking into her tear filled eyes but I was able to utter the words I’ve been wanting to say for a very long time.
After she said yes Marin took us around Rome to take some newly engaged photos. I couldn’t think of a better backdrop to tell someone you want to spend the rest of your lives with them.
