How we met: Last year my roommates and I had friends over for a “Friendsgiving” Party before we went away to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families. To our surprise we had around 40 people come, and with our first attempt at cooking a turkey we had a grand cocktail party with all of our favorite fixin’s! While I was cooking in the kitchen, John and I met through a mutual friend. Our conversation took off over our shared loved for dentistry and medicine. During the conversation John very smoothly asked for my number, and a week later I visited John’s church and went on our first of many coffee dates. John and I went on many dates around the Lowcountry from Sullivan’s Island to Folly Beach, I was swoon from the very start! Little did I know, exactly a year later in the city we fell in love John would propose!
how they asked: On November 21st, 2014 John came into town for the weekend to celebrate our 10 month dating anniversary. He arrived in a suit and tie with a dozen red roses from my favorite florist , and we went for a walk with my spaniel pup, Cooper. During the walk we went around to some of our favorite places like Colonial Lake and down Queen Street. We ended our walk at the Charleston Harbor. When we arrived to the Harbor John said he wanted to take me to our special bench where we have sat together and prayed for our future multiple times. When we got there John told me to look onto the pier that the people looked familiar. When I looked out at the pier I did not notice anyone, and John urged me to look closer. All of the sudden people turned around and started waving! With tears in my eyes I noticed it was both of our families and my grandparents cheering on the pier! I turned to hug John and moments later he was on one knee asking me to be his wife. With shouts of joy and a lot more tears in my eyes I said “YES” to my best friend!
My family came running over to us, and as if this wasn’t the biggest shock… John had hired my favorite photographer, Natalie Franke from Maryland, to capture everything! After chatting with family, Natalie took John and I through the cobblestone streets of downtown and for the next few hours we showed her our historic city by foot stopping at some of our favorite streets and parks for pictures! (Yes, I did feel like I was dreaming!)
After pictures, John and I celebrated at our favorite restaurant, Poogans Porch. This was so special just to have this time for the two of us to talk! Afterwards we met our family and friends (some of which who traveled hours to surprise us) at our favorite dive bar, Salty Mikes. Cheers to true love, and to my wonderful fiance for planning the perfect proposal for us!
