Preetina and Alvin
How We Met
Alvin and I met over the Internet and mutual friends. When he first sent me a friend request on Facebook, without responding I sent him a message asking if we were relatives as most of the Singh’s are abroad. He replied with a stern no, and said he would like to get to know me. I told him very abruptly that I don’t add random people and I don’t want to be his friend. He didn’t give up. He messaged me everyday, our conversations would range from food to dogs to almost anything we could talk about. He would very slyly mention how we talk so often and I still hadn’t added him. He was so easy to talk to and we went with the flow. I finally accepted his request and we became friends. After a few months, he asked me to be his girlfriend. I immediately said no. I told him all my reasons of how it wouldn’t work and the time difference and everything. He told me “Preetina, it’ll work, we will make it work” And it did.
how they asked
On April 17, 2017 we went on a date to a fancy resort. As I sat on a deck overlooking the ocean, sipping my wine and enjoying the view of the ocean Alvin stood up and said he forgot something in the car. Off he went. I sat enjoying my own company. He returned after a bit and then said he had to go to the washroom. And he left again. I waited, this time fuming. When he returned, we started chatting and everything went back to normal. Suddenly, one of the managers stopped by our table and exclaimed that he knew Alvin from high school. They started chatting, by this time mind you I was frankly annoyed.
Who is this person?! How dare he interrupt our date night. AND then he asked to take us on a tour of the resort. I was like Nooooo. But Alvin insisted and because he was Alvin’s friend I followed. In my heels, onto the beach we went, stopping by a few restaurants along the way.
Rounding up the tour near the spa, there was a cute bure out on the water with drapes and lighting and the works. I voiced my admiration for it and the manager insisted we take a look. I could tell someone was already there enjoying their dinner and we were going to interrupt them! I repeatedly said we shouldn’t interrupt but again I was made to go see it. Walking along the bridge, I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful the scenery looked. The ocean, the setting sun and the wind blowing the drapes making it look like something out of a movie.
Almost 3/4 way and the two people oblivious to us intruders stood up. It was my sister and my close friend! Holding up boards with the words •Will you Marry Me• And out from the side jumped a photographer and I turned around tears in my eyes and Alvin was on one knee with a ring!
Oh my heart! Everything was a blur and me a fountain of tears. He slipped the delicate and oh so pretty ring on to my finger and hugged me as I cried with joy; the photographer snapping away. It was a magical magical night and my darling darling Fiancé made me feel like a princess that night and I know will continue to do so, making me his Queen. I will never ever forget that day.
