Phillip and Niki
how we met
Niki and I first met briefly on a cruise ship, the summer after our freshman year. I didn’t think much of it, other than, “That was a pretty girl.” A couple of months later, I spotted a familiar face in my dorm. Not only did Niki go to my school, but she was also living in the same building!
We dated through college—she was my first and only girlfriend. I remember talking to my mom on the phone one night about Niki, as things were getting more serious. My mom asked if I was sure that I wanted to see just one person. I replied, “When you have the best, why look for anyone else?”
how they asked
After 5 years, I knew it was time. I told Niki we were going to a family party at a local catering hall. What she didn’t know was that I had reserved the entire back half of the venue—a beautiful patio on the shore surrounding an ornate gazebo.
I hired a couple of very talented musicians, and as we approached, they began to play “Marry Me,” by Train, her favorite band.
I led her down to the shore, got on one knee, and asked her to marry me. I’ll never forget the look in her eyes. And fortunately, with the photos here, we can relive the special moment that brought us together forever.
Thanks to Sandro Carlacci of The Surf Club, Purab Parikh of Blue Diamond, Inc., the musicians at Hal Prince Music, Kesha Lambert of Kesha Lambert Photography, and, of course, Niki for saying “Yes!”
