I went to college at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. I was entering my senior year there when I met my now fiancé, Scott. In Denton, there is a town square with a historic courthouse where a lot of couples go on dates. Throughout my senior year, Scott would take me on dates to the square! On one date there, we sat on a bench next to the courthouse and said “I love you” for the first time. Fast forward a year and half to Christmas Day: we had just spent the day with my family and were supposed to go to dinner on the square to celebrate my sister’s birthday. We took separate cars and she ended up calling me to say we needed to waste about 30 minutes before our reservation and to meet them by the courthouse to take pictures with all of the lit up trees. Having no clue, we drove there and saw their car, but not my family. Scott suggested we get out to start taking pictures and I agreed that we should, still clueless. We ended up making our way to the bench that we first said our I love you’s at and sat down. I was checking my phone to see where my family could be and was honestly just so freezing! He told me to put my phone down, so I did and then leaned up against him. He was quiet, then said “this is the bench we first said I love you at, and now I have a question for you at this same place…” he got down on one knee, asked me to be his wife and we both bursted into tears! Meanwhile, my family had come from around the corner and were all taking pictures. It was the sweetest and best night of my life so far and we cannot wait to get married this summer!
