Paula and Jordan

How We Met

Jordan and I first met at a Christian Brothers Academy school dance our freshman year of high school in 2006. Our love story didn’t begin the night of the dance, but a friendship did. We stayed in touch throughout high school until the end of our senior year when we both knew we wanted to be together.

Bad timing though, as college was just beginning. After many years of long drives between University of Scranton and Rutgers University, both of us finished college, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.

how they asked

Jordan’s birthday had just passed and we had made plans to go out for dinner with his family that next Friday on March 30th to celebrate. Secretly, Jordan had other plans for that day. In January, he had sneakily gone over to my parents’ house while I was working and asked them for my hand in marriage. Since then, he had been working on his elaborate proposal plan, contacting my family members as well as his own so that everyone set aside the date.

That day, he took a half day from work and spent the rest of the day prepping for what would be the biggest night of his life. I had always been an avid Bachelor fan over the years and Jordan wanted to create a proposal that would sweep me off my feet, Bachelor-style. As I was getting myself ready at home, I said goodbye to my family who claimed they were going to take my grandfather to Stations of the Cross, something that would be totally characteristic of my grandfather, as it was Good Friday.

Minutes before Jordan’s family was supposed to arrive to pick me up at my house, I received a text from Jordan saying there were a change in plans and a limo would be arriving shortly. Before I knew it, the chauffeur was greeting me at my front door. In the limo, I found four letters accompanied by a rose, with instructions as far as what order to read them, outlining the story of our relationship: the High School Years, the College Years, the Working Years, and finally, the Future. I enjoyed this “light-reading” as he called it, and cried the whole drive as the limo driver took me to a surprise destination.

The limo stopped at Silver Lake Park in Belmar, NJ. I spotted Jordan standing there in the gazebo as soon as we pulled up. I walked the LONG pathway leading to the gazebo where Jordan was awaiting my arrival. When I reached him, he got down on one knee, asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. After he proposed, he told me the surprise was not over yet. The limo took the two of us to Antonio’s Trattoria in Manasquan, NJ where our families greeted us with champagne, balloons, and flowers. We shared a celebratory dinner filled with lots of happy tears. Let’s just say, I got the final rose!
