How We Met
On April 1st, 2016, I attended Spartan’s Camp a leadership camp at Ridgemont High School in Ottawa Ontario. This is where I saw a boy dressed as Robinhood running games in a classroom during Murder Mystery. I had told him that he had a very nice ‘Peter Pan’ costume on… as he proceeded to correct me, I felt like a total idiot. Anyways, that was when Caleb and I first communicated. A couple of months later I was asked to become a builder (leader) and so I switched schools for my senior year.
In November after the first camp was over was where our mutual friend Gaby formally introduced us, after I had told her I had a massive crush on Caleb. I then ended up asking him if we could spend lunch together, which was the first time we had ever hung out alone. We ended up eating a bag of sour skittles in front of my locker. How romantic, I know. We, later on, became close friends and the first time we hung outside of school became our first date.
I took him to the Canadian Museum of Nature, and he officially made it a date by paying for both of us. That day, we learned about dinosaurs, traveled through downtown Ottawa, watched the sunset over Gatineau, and warmed up by the eternal flame on Parliament Hill. We continued to adventure together, learning new things, we both played rugby and continued to be leaders at camp. A couple of months later he officially asked me to be his girlfriend!
We graduated from high school together and did almost 2 years of long-distance during our college years. We now spend most of our time doing all sorts of water sports, bouldering, exploring, baking, cooking, and serving at our local church. Senior year changed everything in our lives, and little did we know that we both had met our forever.
How They Asked
Now that 2.5 years have passed by, and we have graduated from college, things were looking good. I had been hinting at Caleb about a ring… and we had both already discussed the level of commitment that we want for each other. On May 15th, 2019, we were getting ready to go on a road trip to Oshawa for a convention. After we had ironed his nice shirts and had dinner, we went downstairs to the basement and were just talking about how we would always have each other’s backs no matter what. He then got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him, I said “Obviously yeah.” thinking it was a total joke. But then he took the ring out and put it on my finger. He told me that I could keep it if I wanted to, and that was when I burst into tears.
He had planned it perfectly so that we could celebrate with our friends in Oshawa, and be together for a whole weekend.
We are now planning our dream wedding for August 2021, to be married in front of our beautiful family and friends. Caleb is everything and more that I could have ever dreamed of as my life partner. From building Spartan’s Camp together to building a life together.
