How We Met
Kyle and I met during our college years. I was in a sorority and he was in a fraternity, one of his fraternity brothers was tagged in a photo with me and he asked who I was, contacted me through Facebook, and we went on a few dates during the Summer of 2008. For reasons that neither he nor I can remember, things didn’t work out and we lost touch. Fast forward to 2014 and I was on Match.com but didn’t use it much, I had it but didn’t really pursue dating anyone from it. One day a notification pops up on the app that says someone winked at me, I usually would look to see who it was and to read over their profile on the off chance we might have some sort of connection. It was Kyle! We reconnected through Match.com and I think we talked for easily 6 hours that day through any form of communication possible. The rest is history, we’ve been together ever since!
how they asked
I got a message from my friend Kate asking me to get brunch with her in Old Town Alexandria on the 6th of February because that’s when her bridesmaid’s dress would be ready for her future sister-in-law’s wedding. I was completely up for it knowing that I didn’t have anything planned and Kyle was heading to the golf expo with a couple of his friends. She came and picked me up and we drove into Old Town to have brunch at Chadwicks (which was fabulous). After leaving the restaurant I thought we were headed to King Street for some shopping but she said she felt full and wanted to take a walk by the water because she wasn’t familiar with the area. I’ve been going to Old Town for as long as I can remember so I was happy to show her around. We’re walking down the dock/sidewalk past the Torpedo Factory and all of a sudden Kate stops, runs behind me off to the left of me, and I see Kyle walking up to me. Obviously I was confused because he was supposed to be with his friends 30 miles away! He stopped me in one of my favorite spots in Old Town, got down on one knee and held out the most gorgeous ring I had seen, and asked me to be his wife! I was sobbing (happy tears, of course), hyperventilating, and all I could speak were the words “are you serious?!” and I managed to nod a yes. I look around to find Kate and then I see Kyle’s sister Jessica, who is a photographer, has been snapping pictures the whole time and a crowd was cheering for us on the dock. He coordinated the whole thing, even the creation of my ring, in those two weeks and managed to keep it a secret from me. I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him!
