How We Met
Salli-Jo and I met through our church years ago at a convention. Sparks were flying as soon as we laid eyes on each other, even at a young age. Years went by without any communication and we both were in separate relationships for 5 + years in 2 different countries. On a random Saturday in March of 2017, I walked into the church and saw Salli-Jo in the congregation. I was so surprised to see her that day, I could hardly focus on the service. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on and I just could not control the feeling. We exchanged words after service that day and I reached out on Facebook the next day. She told me that she just wanted to get away from Jamaica for a little bit and spend some time with her family and friends in the states. We could not stop talking; we spoke every single day for hours and even went to sleep on the phone with each other. Fast forward a few months and she flew back to New York – this time to visit me. We went to brunch, dinner and a movie – I felt complete whenever she was around me and I knew we had a special connection. A year later, I proposed to her in Florida! It didn’t take long for us to realize that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
how they asked
We planned a trip to Florida for my birthday in June and I knew that I wanted to propose to her during that trip. We already spoke about getting married in the near future and I knew she would probably expect me to propose in Florida, so I had to come up with a game plan to add an element of surprise. I knew that I wouldn’t have another opportunity to propose because of our long distance relationship. She was arriving on a Tuesday morning so I told her I’d get there on Thursday and she can stay with my sister until I arrive because I couldn’t get the extra days off from work (wink, wink). Little did she know, I purchased a flight to arrive on Tuesday night so that I could surprise her at dinner with my sister on Wednesday evening. Special thanks to my sister for helping me execute this plan! Not knowing that I was already in town, I popped up at Shooters Waterfront in Fort Lauderdale where she was having dinner with my sister and proposed. She was in total shock!
