How We Met
Josh and I met in 7th grade algebra class. For me it was love at first sight, but it took him a few more years to realize he wanted to settle down. Even at 13 my dad always told me “You’re going to marry that boy and neither of you even know it yet!” I thought he was crazy because Josh was, and still is, way out of my league! Throughout the rest of middle and high school Josh played the classic game of “I don’t want you but I don’t want anyone else to have you” like almost every other high school boy! In the middle of our senior year of high school we started dating and attended the same university.
We have been happily in love ever since!
how they asked
In July, my parents, Josh and I went on a family vacation to Treasure Island, FL. Josh and I were both really stressed because in less than a week I would be moving to attend medical school while he stayed home to start pharmacy school. We used the trip as a way to spend tons of quality time together, but the thought of my leaving loomed over our heads. While I love Treasure Island, I was slightly disappointed because it would be the first vacation I’d been on that we hadn’t spent time at Walt Disney World. I am a huge Disney lover and WDW is my favorite place on Earth! On Sunday evening as we were getting ready to go to bed, my dad pulled me to the side and told me that we were going to WDW the next day! I was so surprised, especially because Josh told me that he had known the plans all along. He is horrible at keeping secrets, so I was so shocked that he was able to keep it to himself!
So the next morning we woke up super early and drove the 2 hours to WDW. As soon as we walked in we got pictures in front of Cinderella’s Castle, like always, and we rode a few rides. Around noon we decided it was time to grab a quick lunch. While Josh and I went to grab a snack, my parents slipped away. They were gone for about 20 minutes and I was starting to get antsy because I didn’t want to spend the whole day just sitting around! My dad finally called Josh and said that they were on a bridge in front of the Castle, so we headed over that way. As we were walking over to my parents, I could see that a photographer was talking to them, which I didn’t think much of because they’re always so friendly and go out of their way to talk to guests.
As we got closer, Josh pointed to a white box sitting on a ledge. He looked at me and simply said “Why don’t you go look in that box?”
As I opened it, I could tell through the tissue paper inside that it was a pair of ears. When I finally got to the ears I read “Will you marry me?” embroidered on them. I turned around to look at Josh and he was down on one knee.
I was so shocked and excited that I couldn’t form the word “yes”, so I just nodded my head and attacked him with hugs and kisses.
It was so surreal because we were right in front of the Castle, but the spot was private and my parents were there to see the whole thing! The photographer got the whole thing and Disney made the day even more magical. They gave us a pair of bride and groom ears, embroidered them for free, got us reservations in the booked Belle’s Castle for lunch, and gave us a commemorative Christmas tree ornament! I can’t believe that Josh was able to pull off the surprise, and July 18, 2016 was the most perfect day!!
