How We Met
Tushar and I met through a mutual friend. I had just gotten out of a relationship that ended poorly, so I was not at all ready to even consider being set up on date. Our friend was persistent that we meet and I eventually gave in. After texting back and fourth for some time, Tushar coyly asked me out and before giving myself the opportunity to hesitate and change my mind, I replied with a “yes!”
Tushar picked me up from work and took me to arguably one of the best restaurants in the city. Our conversation was natural and we got along as though we had known each other forever. Just as we were getting ready to leave, he paid the bill and asked to keep a copy of the receipt (remember this as it’ll play a huge role in the proposal). Thinking nothing of it, we got up and he dropped me home.
Of course, once I got home that night, I couldn’t stop thinking about our conversation and how wonderful the evening was…and his adorable smile :)
Safe to say we’ve been inseparable ever since!
how they asked
Tushar is a hopeless romantic. I had been planning a trip to Italy for quite some time with a few of my girlfriends. I always found it weird that he was so interested in having copies of my flight information and itinerary, but never thought twice about why he’d want it. Once our all of our trip details were booked, I sent him all of the info I had.
My friends and I were travelling throughout Italy for about two weeks and our final stop was Venice. Our train from Florence was slightly delayed, which resulted in us missing a connecting train to our hotel. Once we arrived, we learned that we would need to travel to the other side of Venice. Of course, the only way to get to our hotel was to take a train…that we missed about an hour before.
By this point we were exhausted from lugging around our luggage (on the cobblestone and up many flights of stairs), it was hot and the overall fatigue from travelling was starting to catch up to us. I was ready to throw in the towel, but my friends were able to hail a cab and get us to the hotel in no time. Once we checked in, we were asked to wait about an hour until our room would be ready for us. I didn’t think it was a big deal, but my friends were starting to get a little uneasy and I noticed that I was the only one who didn’t seem to be in some sort of rush. Again, I just went with it, oblivious to what was happening around me.
When we finally settled in and my friends convinced me to change (the runners were a losing battle, there was no way I’d wear anything else on those uneven Venetian streets!), we were ready to explore the city. We had a “tour guide” pick us up in a private water taxi to take us to a hotel (right on the Grand Canal) where we would have drinks with the rest of the tour group.
Once we got off the boat, our guide suggested we take pictures on the terrace while she went in and gathered the rest of the group. We agreed and before I knew it, she returned with a gift and handed it to me. I immediately knew it was from Tushar (still, I didn’t think anything of it because he always surprises me with really thoughtful, sweet gestures – I told you, a hopeless romantic at heart!!) and when I opened it up, I saw that it was a box full of receipts and ticket stubs from dates that we had been on. He ordered them by date and right at the top was the bill from our first date, which ended up flying out of the box. As my friends and I chased after it, I caught him out of the corner of my eye and immediately knew what was going to happen.
Naturally, I walked over to him (sobbing hysterically) and he got down on one knee and made me the happiest girl.
