How We Met
He was the cute 8th grader and I was the shy 7th grader. Thankfully, we had a very small elementary school so we got to know each other by morning line-ups, recess, lunch room chats, and awkward glances during class changes. Our love story started out as a puppy love relationship that no one really thought would become serious. Almost nine years later and we have gone from high school sweethearts to college lovebirds to future Mr. and Mrs.!
how they asked
Every time we would visit my parents in Florida I would say to Shawn, “This time, we are going to go to the beach for sunrise!” and every time we would be on the plane heading home and I would realize we never saw the sunrise. Finally, this vacation, that also happened to be our Christmas holiday to visit my parents, we swore to make it to sunrise. On Christmas morning, we woke up at 6:00 am, rolled out of bed, threw on a sweatshirt (yes, it was a chilly morning in Florida) and headed to the beach. I am not a morning person, to say the least, so the whole car ride was somewhat silent with a few giggles and yawns. We got to the windy Siesta Beach and headed out for a walk to get a better look at the sunrise. We picked a spot and stood there, me standing there wide-eyed staring at the sunrise and Shawn, with his arms around me. After all this time, I swear I did not see this coming at all! All of the sudden Shawn whispered in my ear, “You know I love you right?”, I hesitated, “Yes, of course…”, he then went on to say “Should I prove it to you?”. I was completely confused. By the time I had turned around, he was on his knee and I’m pretty sure he said something along the lines of “Will you marry me?” but I was already in tears (and I never cry) and in disbelief that I don’t really remember. I kept saying “No, you’re kidding, no way” but after I realized what was really happening, I said “yes!”.
