How We Met
Nate and I met in high school. We became friends senior year but we were both dating other people. This didn’t stop our flirtation though. One day we made a silly joke about one day getting married on the top of a mountain (this part comes back later when he proposes!). Fast forward a few months to us both attending the University of New Hampshire. Once we got to school together, the connection took place almost instantly. It was a beautiful friendship that turned into an even better relationship.
how they asked
A little over 6 years later, Nate and I were planning a ski trip with friends to Okemo Mountain. Little did I know he was doing some planning of his own! Two weeks before the trip he asked my parents permission, went with his mom to buy the ring and told all of our friends what his plan was for that weekend. Thinking back to that joke we made almost 7 years earlier, he had planned for everyone to take a snowcat ride to the top of the mountain at night.
We almost couldn’t go because it was the coldest day of the year (-35 on the top of the mountain!). His plan was once we got to the top that each couple would go before us to take a picture and we would go last. Our turn came and we took our picture together. He asked to take another one and I was freezing but went along with it! All of a sudden he starts kneeling down in the snow, and I had no idea what was happening!
He pulls out the ring box and asked me to marry him surrounded by our friends. I was so surprised, I said yes immediately.
It was the best surprise I have ever gotten, and i love that our innocent joke in high school became the beginning of our future together.
