How We Met
Matt and I met about 7 years ago, during my first day of work at a new job. It was at Bay State Gymnastics Academy, Matt was a gymnastics coach and I was a new office employee. I walked by Matt and he immediately turned around to get a better look. We were later introduced by a mutual friend, and Matt and I began our friendship. I was in a previous, unhappy, relationship. Every birthday I would make matt cupcakes related to some of his favorite things, and we would watch Survivor over the phone together. I would call matt and complain and cry about my relationship, while he sat and listened with a heart filled with love and patience, he knew he was waiting for his wife. After waiting for almost 2 years, I became available. We began to date shortly after and the day Matt was supposed to meet my father, my dad passed away. Matt was never able to meet my father. We officially started our boyfriend/girlfriend relationship on 12/13/14 and the rest was a beautiful history.
How They Asked
I would like to preface this story by stating that Matt began planning this proposal on January 28th, 2019, over ONE YEAR prior to the engagement.
I have been in college for about 9 years, and my graduation from an Occupational Therapy program was finally here. I’ve been a nervous wreck all week, wrapped up in graduation chaos, writing a speech, planning desserts, making sure everything was perfect…
Meanwhile, Matt has also been anxious, I could not for the life of me know why. He has been secretly planning the most romantic and special moments of our lives for months. Working together with my closest friends and family, and my school program director, Matt planned his proposal for my graduation ceremony, planning every meticulous detail perfectly…
Saturday arrives, graduation goes off without a hitch, I’m called to the stage to present an award. I nervously walk up the stage and slowly stop as I hear music (Chris Lane’s Big Big Plans- listen to it) I turn to see Matt following me on the stage and my confusion slowly turns to the realization…the moment I’ve been waiting for for years is happening. On stage in front of classmates, friends, faculty, and administration. I answered the easiest question I’ve ever been asked- “Will you marry me?”
