How We Met
Matt and I met online. I was just about to close my account because, let’s face it, 3 months of online dating and I needed a break! I received a message from him on Mother’s Day 2014. I was uncertain on whether I should answer because I knew I was closing my account. He was so good looking that I had to go for it. So I gave him my number and told him to text me if he wanted to talk. He did and we didn’t stop talking for two weeks. With our schedules and previous commitments, it took about 2 1/2 weeks for us to finally make a date to meet. We met the day after Memorial Day and I can honestly say that it was the best date I had ever been on. I was ecstatic when he called the next day and made plans for a second date. Our second date was one for the books! We went to a Yankee Game (even though he is a diehard Mets fan), drove to Brooklyn after the game for some pizza, walked over the Brooklyn bridge, and had ice cream in Little Italy. I knew from then that I had found someone special! Matt quickly turned from someone special to someone I was falling madly in love with!
how they asked
Matt is a K9 Police Officer and works with Dallas. One Sunday, we took Dallas to the park, which we do often. Matt told me that we were going to Roosevelt Island. There is a park there that we had never been to, but I didn’t think anything of it because we took Dallas all over. He also told me that we would be stopping for dinner after (so I wouldn’t wear sweats and sneakers!).
When we got to the park I hid two items, like always, for Dallas to find. A few seconds later he signaled that he found them (of course he did!). Matt asked me to hide the items again but further away to make it more challenging. I did just that. This time Dallas signaled that he found an item extremely fast. I knew it wasn’t what I had hid because it was too close to us. Matt wanted to “check out” what he found. Since, we were in a public park I was not interested in seeing what it was, because, in all honesty, who knows what it could have been! I was busy watching people taking pictures by a nearby tree. However, Matt convinced me to go see. As I was nonchalantly walking over, I noticed Dallas was sitting near a black ring box. As I processed what I was seeing, Matt got down on one knee.
I didn’t even see what was in the box, it was so surreal! Matt proposed and pulled out of his pocket an identical black ring box. Inside had the most perfect ring! I’m pretty sure I said, “Are you kidding me?!” followed by, “YES!” It wasn’t until after I said yes that I looked in the box on the ground. Inside was a dog tag in the shape of a dog bone. WILL YOU MARRY MY DAD? was written on the bone. It was the most perfect day and to top it off there was a photographer to capture the whole day! (Turns out the photographer had planted the ring box in the ground right before we got there!)
