Engagement Proposal Ideas in Central Park, New York City

How We Met

Luis and I met at our college internship and started dating almost six years ago. Within those six years, we have experienced so much as individuals, and as a couple. Long distances, family crises, and everyday occurrences have tested our relationship, and we have always come out stronger on the other side. What started out as a college romance in Long Island, New York, has turned into an extremely happy engaged couple living an exciting life in Houston, TX.

How They Asked

This Christmas, Luis and I went home to New York to visit our families. On Christmas night, he gave me my Christmas gift. The card stated we would be going on a horse and carriage ride through Central Park in New York City the next day. He illustrated the card as well, which was very impressive!

The weather on December 26th could not have been more perfect. The skies were blue, the sun was shining, and for a New York winter, it wasn’t too cold. The crisp air was still full of holiday spirit, tourists were roaming the city streets, and a natural feeling of joy and happiness surrounded us. As we arrived at our destination, I couldn’t help but smile at the beautiful horse that would take us around the park. His name was Billy Bob, and he had a spunky personality. As we pulled away from the curb and entered the park, I had no idea how special the journey we were embarking on was about to become.

Luis and I were snuggled up in the carriage, warm and cozy under a blanket, taking in all of our surroundings. We passed famous NYC buildings, the ice rink, and a small holiday pop up shop. As we approached the stairway that leads down to the fountain by the pond, Billy Bob pulled over. Our carriage driver gave us some carrots to feed to Billy Bob as a reward for his efforts thus far. Luis and I were then instructed to go down by the fountain to take some pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

As we were walking down the stairs, a couple who was just married were taking their wedding photos and had quite a crowd building up around them. There was a musician standing in front of the fountain playing “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, and it was all so sweet. When the musician finished his song, Luis asked if he knew what will be our wedding song, “Never Stop – Wedding Version” by Safetysuit. The musician began to play, and a few moments into the song, Luis got down on one knee. Everything around me seemed to freeze, and everyone in the park seemed to vanish. It was as if it were only he and I. He proceeded to reveal a ring box from his pocket and proposed. As he opened the box, I couldn’t help but cry tears of joy while screaming, “YES!” I laid my eyes upon the gorgeous ring inside the box and instantly fell in love. Once he placed the ring on my finger, I threw myself into his warm embrace, and everyone in the park began to clap. The entire time a secret photographer was taking photos of us, and I had absolutely no idea! It was all very well planned out, and to say it was beautiful would be an understatement.

During our celebratory dinner after the carriage ride, I learned that Luis had been planning this for months. He got my father’s blessing in August, while we were home for my sister’s wedding. He decided on Christmas time, as it is my favorite time of year, and he chose New York City, as it is most romantic during the holiday season. He hired the musician in the park to be there just for us and made sure a photographer from the carriage ride company would be there to capture every moment. I also learned about my gorgeous custom-made engagement ring, which came from Diamond Cutters International in Houston. It felt even more personal when I learned they have worked with my favorite team, the New York Yankees, on their championship rings.

Everything about December 26, 2018, will forever be etched in my memory. Nothing can taint that sacred moment for me. Words simply cannot describe my happiness, and I am honored that I will soon be able to call myself Mrs. Tacuri. Let the wedding planning begin!
