How We Met

Joey and I met through a mutual friend when I was 14 and he was 15. We always felt a connection between each other. However, we both never expressed how we truly felt for one another. At my Sweet Sixteen we shared our first kiss but ended up losing touch over the years.

Fast forward ten years, after a horrible breakup, the same mutual friend that introduced us as teenagers invited me to his birthday. As I was sitting there speaking with old friends I remember looking up and seeing Joey walk into the room. We immediately locked eyes. I remember telling myself that he was the man I was going to marry, and that I was absolutely insane for thinking that. We spent the entire night at the bar catching up on our lives and reminiscing about old times. From that night on we were inseparable.

how they asked

When Joey and I received an invitation to his cousin’s wedding in Italy we did not hesitate to go. It has always been a dream of mine to go to the country where my father’s family is from, and it was a bonus to see the town where Joey’s family is from. Sunsets have always been something we try and make time to see, and it was no different in Italy. In every city we visited we had made it a point to watch the sunset. On the first night in Joey’s hometown of Giovinazzo, Italy he told me he wanted to take me to the perfect place to watch the sunset. As we walked out onto the pier watching the most stunning sunset all I could think about was how breath-takingly beautiful the view was. As I turned around to ask Joey to take a picture with me, he was on one knee reciting a poem he had wrote for me, and asked me to marry him.

Upon our return home from Italy Joey surprised me again with another beautiful ring, and an engagement photo shoot.
