How We Met
Our love story started off as friends freshman year in high school. We both swam and played water polo and of course went to school dances together. We mostly saw each other during swim season, and we would often see each other on the pool deck, but a lot of our interactions were before races. We would laugh and joke before races (even though he was a bit shy then). Although we both had crushes on each other we never dated and went our separate ways for college. Eventually, fate would have us meet again six years later, a birthday text turned into a date, a date with margaritas turned into many dates, two single people became boyfriend and girlfriend and then we found ourselves inseparable.
P.S. he’s not shy anymore!
How They Asked
We had decided to go out to Laguna Beach before we both returned back to school after a summer break. We planned to have a fun beach day (swimming of course), maybe walk around, and go out to dinner. We had the best day out on the beach as always, and after we got ready for dinner. We had amazing pizza at a local restaurant when Greg suggested we keep the fun going and go to a local park to watch the sunset. So we found ourselves at Crescent Bay Point Park in Laguna. The views are absolutely amazing, it is up above the ocean, you can see the sunset perfectly and there is a lot of greenery. We walked around talking and we went off away from other people to a part of the park where you can overlook the beach.
That is where we watched the waves crash below us, and that is the point he positioned himself behind me and said my name. I turned around and he was on one knee with a beautiful ring and asked me to marry him. I immediately cried of course and said: “yes, a million times yes”! It was perfect for us, the water behind us, the sun setting and I loved the fact that it was an intimate moment between just us.
We hugged and kissed, and took a selfie, aka our first picture as a newly engaged couple. Because we met through swimming and water polo I found it very appropriate that we would also get engaged by the water. Afterwards, we celebrated at the beautiful hotel, The Montage in Laguna with champagne and sat by fire; we did not want the night to end. We called our families and told them the wonderful news (but they are already known since he had asked for permission prior). Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal and I am so excited to marry the love of my life.
