How They Asked
We had planned a trip to beautiful New Zealand and had signed up to do a couple of the Great Walks while we were there. We didn’t waste any time getting started, On our second day there we started hiking the Kepler trek. After enduring six hours of being cold, high winds and sideways rain, we decided to turn around and seek sunshine. We found this cute little town a couple of hours away, Wanaka, and set up camp. Nicole had researched tons of hikes, and found the hardest hike, with the highest elevation gain, and the best views of the area. Early the next morning we started the steep hike up to Roy’s peak, surrounded by sunshine and sheep. The views were non-stop epic!
As we finally reached the top of a 4712ft peak, we sat down, away from the crowd and were in awe of where we were in the world. We admired the views and talked about how blessed we were to be in love and traveling together to one of the prettiest places in the world! As we began to head back down, I told Dan I wanted to take a picture from the very top (which had about fifteen people and dan had said he didn’t want to be around a crowd!) However, he wanted me to come to look at a gorge about 50 feet away.
I looked over towards the dead grass he was gazing upon and said, “no thanks babe, I’ll go grab a quick picture from the top and then we can go.” He gently stomped his foot and sighed, and said, “Babe, will you please come, look over here with me?”
I reluctantly walked over to him, as a big wind gust blew me into his arms. His heart was pounding and the nurse in me immediately thought, was he okay? Is he having heart issues?!
Before I could say anything, he was on bended knee and spoke some of the sweetest and genuine words I’ve ever had someone say to me. As he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him, I felt like I was in a dream. I replied, “I can’t believe this is happening right now!?! YES!! YES! YES!!
