Nicole and Bryan

How We Met

Bryan and I had gone to school together since I was in the 6th grade. So, despite the fact that my friends were friends with his, the fact that Bryan was a football player and I was a cheerleader or the fact that we were only one grade apart, our paths had never crossed. After high school, we moved away and went to separate colleges, and after that lived in different cities. It had to be fate that reunited us at a hometown party years later. I don’t know if it was the liquid courage in my system or the idea that I couldn’t miss out on my second shot, so I walked right up to Bryan that night and introduced myself. I even asked for his number! The rest, as they say, is history!

How They Asked

After dating for a few years Bryan and I moved to New York City. On weekends we made it a habit to have our morning coffee with a walk through Central Park. So this December, as the stress of Christmas season came upon me, Bryan suggested that we take a walk through the park to find the Mandarin Duck, and promised that we could take Christmas pictures after. (Now, for those of you who are not up on your Central Park pop-culture, the Mandarin Duck is a gorgeously colored duck who is normally native to East Asia, who happened to find his way into Central Park). The duck is a bit of a celebrity in his own right, drawing crowds wherever he lands. So after hearing Bryan say he wanted to walk by the ponds to sight this mysterious duck, I believed it.

Proposal Ideas Central Park

After a few spots with no duck sighting, Bryan suggested we at least take a picture with the beautiful scenery. As we began to set up for our photo, Bryan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I had no idea that he had hired a photographer to document the whole moment, who was hiding in plain sight. I, of course, said YES! And Jonathan was there to document it all. That night, Bryan had all our friends and family waiting at a bar to surprise and congratulate us on our engagement. The whole day was perfect from start to finish!

Bryan later explained that he could tell how much the holiday season had stressed me out. He wanted to give me a big enough reason to love the holidays! And he sure did!
