How We Met
Benjamin and I met online. He had messaged me and told me he would like to get to know me. I looked at his profile and saw how much of a nerd he was and thought “I need you in my life”. Before I knew it 8 years had passed! We moved in together, he went back to school, and we became each other’s “home”.
How They Asked
I love all things to do with astronomy. Every time I’m outside at night I’m always looking at the stars. Benjamin knows this and started to set up a date night where we went stargazing at a local state park. For the next month, he would tell me “I’m not going to propose to you until next year”. At this point, we had been together for almost 8 years so I was a little upset about this. But I decided it wasn’t worth overthinking and forgot about it. The night comes and we borrowed a telescope from some friends, packed some snacks, and drove to the state park.
We could not get the telescope to work! Between the age of the telescope and the light pollution from the moon. After about an hour we had pretty much given up. Benjamin told me to look through it one last time and “remember, don’t knock over the telescope”. I look through it for about 45 seconds before giving up. I tell him I couldn’t see anything, and look to the side of me to see him on his knee. With how bright the moon was I could see the light reflecting off the ring. I backed up into the telescope, but didn’t knock it over! He didn’t even ask the whole question before I started crying. 8 years in the making and totally worth the wait!
