how we met

Nick: Sara and I met at Gateway Church in Ashland, KY. I attended Gateway for a long time before Sara attended with her friends. I played guitar in the church band and I immediately noticed her the first time she walked in. I waited for a few months for a mutual friend to introduce us, but that never happened. I was worried she was going to get away, so I asked for her number. Our first date was on New Year’s Day when we went out for dinner and coffee. She won me over with her nervous laugh, personality, and her sense of style. Within a few hours of being with Sara, I knew that I wanted to marry her. While we were having coffee, Sara mentioned her love for Savannah, GA. I could tell by the way she described it that it was a special place to her. I decided at that point, if I was lucky enough to ask her to marry me, it would be done in Savannah, GA. Over the months of us dating, marriage was always the end goal for our relationship. I wanted to giver her the proposal that showed her how much she was truly worth in my eyes.

Sara: When I officially met Nick for the first time at our church Christmas party, I couldn’t believe it had taken him since October to finally introduce himself to me. Soon after we met, he asked for my number and locked down a date for New Year’s Day. While I was getting ready, I’m sure I tried on at least 10 different outfits, had a slight panic attack, and even tried to convince myself not to go. I’m so lucky one of my best friends talked me out of canceling because that night definitely changed my life for the better. Nick was the perfect southern gentleman, from his Ralph Lauren button down to opening my doors and even walking me to my door after the night was over. At one point during dinner, I gave the cliche bathroom excuse so I could call my friend to gush about how sweet and cute he was, not to mention thank her a million times for making me go out with him. I remember thinking how perfectly the date had gone (my face hurt from laughing and smiling so much) until he didn’t kiss me goodnight. I thought I blew it somehow. Did my hair get flat? Did I stumble into some bad lighting? (Clueless reference necessary!) Before he even got home, he already asked me on another date, and I couldn’t wait to spend more time by his side. During our time together, Nick never misses a chance to show me how much he loves and appreciates me. I don’t think a week has ever gone by that he hasn’t surprised me and swept me off my feet with flowers, a perfectly planned date, or a simple sweet gesture. I’ve never felt luckier!

how they asked

Nick: I knew if I proposed to Sara in Savannah, I would have to capture the moment for us to remember forever. I contacted Roxanne and Trent from Still Co. and luckily they were available. Sara and I both share a love for historic plantation homes, and anything that is from the 1940’s era. I contacted Dee from Savannah Bike Tours where I was able to customize our own private cruiser bike tour through historic Savannah. During the tour we got caught in a downpour rainstorm, but luckily found shelter. I honestly don’t remember much of the bike tour because I was so nervous. Not to mention, that my credit card had been flagged for fraud because of all the purchases made in Savannah, and my phone was blowing up in my pocket. I told Sara that the bike tour ended in Forsyth Park where we would have a picnic, but I had to pick up the food. Once we arrived the Old Pink House I was able to solve my credit card issue and pay for our meal. From there, we headed to Forsyth Park where a wedding just so happened to be taking place at the fountain. It worked out perfectly because it gave me an unobvious excuse to stop and get off my bike. That’s when I took Sara by the hand and asked her to marry me. Roxanne and Trent had picked up the picnic setting and flowers that I had sent to the Forsyth Park Inn, and they had everything arranged upon our arrival. I couldn’t haveimagined a better way to ask Sara to spend our lives together than in Savannah under the Spanish moss.

I couldn’t have done any of this without the help from Savannah Bike Tours, the Forsyth Park Inn, and especially Roxanne and Trent from Still Co. Seriously, they were awesome. Also, a special thank to my friend Anthony Mossburg for allowing us to make our video even more special by using his song, “Whiskey and Wine”. Sara and I are now enjoying our engagement together in Lexington, KY and plan to begin wedding planning by booking a venue and setting a date soon.

Sara: When I graduated with my Master’s degree this past August, Nick surprised me with a trip to my favorite place in the world – Savannah, GA! Little did I know, the trip included way more surprises than I could have ever expected. Nick informed me that we were taking a cruiser bike tour around historic Savannah and that I should wear a dress. My first reaction was “I haven’t been on a bike in years” and the second was “wait, in a dress?!?” So I put on my favorite Lilly Pulitzer shift dress and decided to give it a shot. Despite the rain, the tour was spectacular.

We ended up in front of the fountain at Forsyth Park where Nick got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes!! He had a picnic set up under the Spanish moss for us along with white hydrangeas (one of my favorite flowers) and a photo of us from the winter. I couldn’t stop looking at my ring the entire time, and not much has changed about that! I can’t believe he put so much time and effort into the proposal. It was literally like a fairytale.

We even got to have a mini engagement photoshoot after the picnic! Still Co. sent us the proposal video a few days after we returned home, and it’s so perfect. It really caught the emotions of the day, and I can’t help but tear up every time I watch it. Nick is the love of my life, my soulmate, and my best friend. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him.
