How We Met
Our story begins in June 2017. Vinny saw this picture on Instagram of me and our mutual friend, Elisa, from her costume-themed birthday party. I’ve always loved dressing up and making costumes so I guess he really liked that about me and those Arthur ears made him think “hmmm I just gotta meet this girl.”
He began visiting my church from time to time on Thursday nights (which I now know was because he was trying to meet me). I was really oblivious to it, I wasn’t looking to meet anybody at the time. A few of my friends who knew him had mentioned to me that he thought I was cute, but every time we saw each other he says he would get nervous and we could never carry out a meaningful conversation. This went on until October when finally our fairy Godmother, Elisa, arranged for a Stranger Things Season 2 binge party at her house. Conveniently, the only seat available on all three of her couches was the one next to him. We finally got to talk and get to know each other and I quickly realized that he was the first person I met who could keep up with my jokes and stories and even one-up me with even better jokes and funnier stories.
Elisa snuck this picture of us in her kitchen from that night:
That one conversation led to us texting every day which led to us calling each other every day which led to one date which led to a second date…. and another and another.
We officially began dating in December 2017 and eventually, we realized that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
Fast forward to October 2018, things came full circle when he became the Buster to my Arthur costume.
How They Asked
Although we spoke about getting married and planning a future together, on the week leading up to the proposal I had no idea that I was about to witness the proposal of my dreams. Literally. It may sound cheesy to anyone else but I’ve always dreamed of having a flashmob proposal. I just never thought it would be possible. So on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019, on our nice date at Mizner Park, when Vinny had to keep running to the bathroom during our “date”, I thought something was off but I never expected this. I thought maybe he would hide the ring in a chocolate box or something. I didn’t suspect anything until I saw someone who looked very much like our friend, Jenn Bezerra, in this crazy outfit begin to yell that she was giving free dance lessons. And then she started to dance…
Not only that, but she was dancing to my favorite song of all time, May I Have This Dance by Francis and the Lights. That’s when I knew my dreams were coming true.
But what was better than my dreams was that all of a sudden, more dancers came out in costumes. One by one, I began to realize that all these dancers were actually my friends and family! I come to find out that they had been practicing for two whole months, with my friend Annmarie Vertullo choreographing the whole thing! I was floored and overwhelmed with the love and support our friends and family showed that day.
The song ended and Vinny kneeled down and had the most simple request: “I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”
That was the easiest “yes” I have ever said. And all 80 of our friends and family flooded the plaza to celebrate and congratulate us.
It was more than I would ever ask and hope for. I love my fiancé and I love our story.
And I’m so grateful for our relationship and beyond excited for what’s to come.
