How We Met

All love stories are beautiful, but ours is definitely my favorite. We were 17 when we met. We met our friends at a bowling alley and the second I saw him I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. So, I walked right up to him and told him he was really tall. Trent’s response? He giggled, and that was it. We we nearly inseparable after that.

A few weeks later Trent worked up the courage to ask me to be his girlfriend and the rest is a history that many have gotten to experience with us. After five years we moved in together and our relationship grew a lot stronger. As we got older, marriage was a topic that came up every so often and Trent told me to stop asking him. I did my best, but showing him rings I liked couldn’t hurt, right?

how they asked

Well, a few years later, like four years later, on August 29th, 2015, Trent took me to one of our favorite hiking spots in Holy Jim Canyon. We were trying to hike to the waterfall at the back of the canyon but poison oak had become so populated here that we had to turn back. Trent wanted to take a picture before we left, which I didn’t find odd or anything, so we walked back towards the entrance of the trail. I guess he found the “spot” he wanted to take the picture, so he asked me to stand near a tree and wait for him to set the camera up. Without me thinking anything of it, I was looking around while he set the camera up in another nearby tree. Trent had actually set up his phone to record, but I didn’t know it yet.

As he walked back over, I was still looking the opposite direction and as I turned around he got down on one knee. I literally could not comprehend what was going on. But, I was looking into the eyes of my best friend of nearly 10 years who asked me to marry him, and after my momentary laugh attack (so happy I kept laughing), I said YES!

He told me he was filming the whole thing and at first I was embarrassed because I wasn’t dressed up, but then I realized how much effort he put into this. We love the outdoors. We love hiking. He connected the things we love to do with our proposal. It may have not been in a fancy country, expensive restaurant or on a hot air balloon, but it was us. And that was what made it so special to me. I love him more and more everyday and I can’t wait to be his wife.
