How We Met
Before I get into my story of how Jeffrey and I met, if you were to ask him, you would find his story drastically differs from mine (it includes something about ketchup stand at the dining hall and me saying “Let’s hangout, bro!” If you knew me, you would know I would never say such a thing!). It’s actually an ongoing thing we’ve had for the past seven years, but trust me, mine is the right story.
I am one of those lucky ones who has experienced love at first sight. I first saw Jeffrey at freshman college orientation summer of 2012. He was wearing a purple polo and he was that mysterious, outrageously handsome boy I felt drawn to like a magnet. It was one of those orientations where the incoming freshman students sleep overnight and I (so badly!) wanted to find him and hang out, but of course, the girls I gravitated towards were not interested in going on a manhunt with me.
The good news is that we were both incoming athletes. I played soccer. He played football. The next morning there was an athletics orientation and when I walked into the hall, I saw Jeffrey sitting by himself. So, what did I do? I walked right up and sat next to him. Power move. We kept getting in trouble all throughout the orientation because we could not stop talking to each other. Needless to say, I was smitten. How could talking to a complete stranger but this easy?
Fast forward seven years and here we are newly engaged, more in love than ever, and planning our dream wedding. Proof that love at first sight does, in fact, exist.
How They Asked
The day of my engagement is truly a day I will never forget. It was the first full day of our vacation to the beautiful country of Costa Rica. While we expected sunny blue skies upon arrival, we were bummed to find out that Guanacaste, the region of Costa Rica we were staying in, was hit by a tropical storm inflicting high-speed winds and nonstop downpours.
We woke up the next day to continued rainfall and just when I thought our vacation could not start on a worse note, the sun finally broke through that afternoon and my boyfriend insisted I take a shower and get ready for dinner that evening. When I got out of the shower, a random woman walked into our hotel room (I was only in a towel btw!!) and she said, “Your partner wants you outside.” I replied, “Sorry miss, I think you have the wrong room,” to which she reiterated, “No. You partner really wants you outside.”
I quickly threw on a dress (hair wet, no makeup, barefoot!) and she escorted me out to a large white patio with the Costa Rican mountains as a backdrop when I saw Jeffrey across the way on one knee.
He truly surprised me in the most intimate way and I will forever cherish this memory for the rest of my life. Pura Vida, Costa Rica!
Natasha & Jeffrey
P.S. A lot of people asked me who filmed the proposal. Jeffrey ran into the couple in the hallway of the hotel while I was in the shower and asked the woman to get me from the hotel room and asked the man to take a video. We tried SO hard to find the couple that week during our vacation, but no luck. They played such a huge role in the best day of my life and I wanted to personally thank them once I came down from the proposal high!
