How We Met
We met on January 3, 2014, at a local skating rink. I came home for winter break from my first semester in college and my friends at the time forced me to go skating (even though they knew I didn’t know how lol). Now he and his friends were there and they were AVID skaters, they could do all the tricks but I wasn’t impressed, my friends and I actually thought it was hilarious. But with him doing all his tricks he hurt himself and came my way to get himself together while I was being a sideline cheerleader for my friends on the skating floor. It’s not like he came into my bubble and was quiet about it though, he had the audacity to tell me I was in his seat, and that lead to him asking me if I wanted to skate. And we skated together the rest of the night and haven’t looked back.
How They Asked
He decided that he wanted July 2022 to be date month. Whether they were big or small dates, we committed to be doing things together since we had been missing a lot of time together. So I came across this event called a water lantern festival. It was happening on July 30th and I told him that would be one of the dates I choose. Little do I know he turned it into one of the best moments. He always asked what kind of proposal did I want and I never really cared as long as he could surprise me and he definitely made that happen. I spent the morning that day with my best friend who conveniently was in town for her nephew’s birthday.
We went to brunch and got our nails done with me thinking she just needed some girl time, but it was for the proposal lol. We went our separate ways and my fiancé and I went to the festival it was so serene to be by the water with just us but he definitely was acting funny lol. He kept getting up, talking to the DJ, faking that he lost his wallet, the whole act, I almost got mad and could’ve ruined everything lol. After his last time speaking to the DJ, he told me we had to get up on stage and say what we are thankful for.
I thought he was crazy because he knows I’m anxious. So we walk to the stage, idk what to say so he hops on the mic, and then The Best Part starts to play. Then I turn around and all of our family and friends were there including a photographer he hired for the occasion. I balled like a baby to say the very least. But it was one of the best moments of my life. It was nothing like I imagined my proposal to be and yet it was perfect and I’m so grateful.
