Natalie and Chip

How We Met

It’s so funny how things work out – I was in a sorority and he was in a fraternity. It was my sorority’s formal, and I was bringing a guy that I had literally the biggest crush on. I was in a group for formal with 2 of my friends at the time, and their dates came over and Chip was one of their dates because her boyfriend wasn’t able to go at the last minute. We were in the same group for pictures and hung around the rest of the night, but then didn’t really talk again until later that year when we were still in the same friend group.

By the time we started getting close, him and I both were in relationships, which ended up ending within 3 days of each other and we heavily depended on each other during that time. He was my first kiss after the break up – except I had absolutely no feelings other than just being friends towards him. He, on the other hand, had fallen for me hard and after a few painful conversations let it go. Months pass of him being my best friend, and after one night in particular I started to see him differently. Within a month and a half after that, we began dating, and I fell fast. Within a month of dating, we knew that we were going to get engaged.

^ A year and a half before we got engaged…it’s so funny how the caption for this picture was “bff”.

how they asked

After my family moved to Miami, he flew down to spend a few days with us here. My favorite restaurant in the world is Smith and Wollensky’s, right next to the end of South Beach. We got all dressed up and my parents and brother left before we did, and we got there and walked up and down South Pointe Park while the sun was started to set. We were holding hands, and he started leading me up this walkway trail overlooking everything.

It was absolutely beautiful. Then, he stopped me and held me close, kissing me in between telling me how much he loved me and how much I meant to him. Then, he got down on one knee and asked the question!!

It was like an out of body experience and the happiest moment of my life. I cried and of course accepted, to then hear claps and see my parents and brother right below watching the entire event fold out and a photographer right near us!

Afterwards, we got to have an hour and a half long engagement photoshoot together before having the most incredible meal of my life.

It’s been a week, and it is still so surreal to me.
