How We Met
Thomas and I were co-workers. We met almost a whole year before we went out. He had a long distance relationship and I had a guy. Our friendship was genuine and we would sometimes give each other dating advice from time to time. I knew I really liked him from the start, but Thomas wouldn’t know about my crush until years later.
Thomas had just broken up with his girlfriend and we were talking about if he should make up with her. I was telling him that he should get back together with her. (Stupid me) Good thing though that Thomas never did take my advice. He started bringing me coffees at work and meeting me late after work for breakfast dinners at Denny’s. It wasn’t long before we were dating.
Our work had a no-dating coworkers policy, so our relationship kept it on the DL. We weren’t fooling anyone though. Our boss mentioned that we would make a cute couple and that he wouldn’t say anything if we happened to “see” each other. We laughed. To this day, our boss still thinks he matched us. We just let him have that.
how they asked
We were celebrating and Thomas took me to a fancy restaurant down by Oceanside Pier. We ate dinner while watching the waves. I love the beach, so Thomas wanted it to be special. After dinner, we walked out to the end of the pier. It was chilly and later, so we were just about the only people there. The lights danced off the water and the fog was rolling in. It was very romantic. As we were walking back I noticed that Thomas was not walking beside me. I turned to see him down on one knee. He reminded me of his promise he made to me the first year we dated and how today he was fulfilling that promise. I couldn’t believe that this was real. I barely was able to catch my breath to answer yes. YES, YES YES!
