How We Met
Bryon and I met while working for a Saturday School Program at York College. I was walking down the hallway looking for my class and he was leaned against the wall waiting for his students who were in the bathroom. As soon as I walked by him he said, “You look tired.” I smiled and engaged in a quick conversation because I was very shy. Those 3 words started it all. Later that week I added him on Instagram and then Facebook. We use to communicate through Facebook messenger until one day he gave me his number. Our first date was very spontaneous.
His class at QCC got canceled and I was just getting out of my PSYCH class when I got a text asking me if I wanted to grab lunch. Knowing that I had to get to work in a few hours, chose to go to Applebee’s since it was close to my school and the highway. From that one date we opened up to each other and told each other that we were not looking into getting into a relationship and the focus was just school. I remember he told me that he didn’t believe in love. I responded by saying, “ one day you will meet that person who will change your perspective.” Little did I know that person would be me!!
how they asked
Bryon decided to propose on the 17th of September since the 17th is our anniversary ( he asked me out January 17th) and we met in September. He told me we were going to a show so I had to get dressed up. I knew he was going to propose ( I picked up on some hints) so I made sure I wore a nice dress and my cousin took me to get my nails done. I had no idea where he would do it or when. Bryon picks me up and he’s wearing a suit, I definitely knew it would happen now. In the car he’s quiet and I’m wondering where are we going ?! We park and he takes my hand and we start walking towards a park. When we get near the location, the walkway is bumpy with gravel so he tells me he walks my step and makes sure I don’t fall because I was wearing heels. I keep my head down paying attention to where I’m walking and then I hear my name.
I see I signs that says “ marry me?” My cousin and her boyfriend are taking photographs and Bryon is staying near a heart-shaped rug with rose petals and tea light candles. He takes my hand and gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him. After we had a little photoshoot. Then he takes me out to lunch and tells me there’s one more surprise.
We spent the day in Long Island and then he tells me we need to go to his house because his cousin wants to congratulate us. I didn’t think anything of it so I said okay. When I walk in the driveway, our closest family members were there for the surprise party he planned. It was definitely one of the best days of my life!
