Morgan and Philip
How We Met
Philip and I met online on December 19th of 2012. I was in town for two weeks to see my family for Christmas and changed the location setting on my profile. Philip had reached out to me that morning and we exchanged phone numbers. That night, I was driving home from dropping my brother off somewhere and had accidentally butt dialed him! I quickly hung up and hoped the call hadn’t gone through. It did. He called back and told me how impressed he was that I called him first instead of just texting him. (Score!) We talked for a few minutes and he asked me if I wanted to meet him in an hour. Bold. I played the “Oh, well I should ask my mom first in case she wants to hang out, I’ll let you know” card. I went home and talked to my mom (*showed his pictures of course) and she convinced me to “just go.” Still unsure, I told her that if I wasn’t home in 3 hours to call the police. You never know with online dating.
We agreed to meet at the parking lot of his gym. He pulled up next to me and I couldn’t help but smile when I saw him, I thought he was so handsome. We didn’t even get out of the car, we just rolled down the windows and decided to go to a local bar down the road. I followed him there and texted my mom and friend Nicole, “He’s really cute. I am going to stay.” We sat at the bar getting to know each other for hours. Our conversations were effortless. I asked him the cheesiest question, “So what’s your sign?” He responded, “Scorpio.” “Me too!” I exclaimed. Of course the next questions was – “When’s your birthday?” That was when we found out we had the same birthday! October 25th! Obviously, it was meant to be..
We closed the bar down and we weren’t ready to say goodbye yet, so we decided to head to the casino! When we got there I checked my phone and had 17 missed calls at 21 text messages from my mom who was all worried about me because it was 1am. (whoops) I calmed her down and told her I was having fun and I was safe. I followed Philip to the roulette table, we had so much fun laughing and playing together. There was a gentleman sitting next to an empty chair and Philip asked him “Hey, can you move over one so I can sit next to my girl?” I thought that was so sweet that he called me his girl and to this day, I still love it when says that. We ended up closing the casino down too! He drove me back to my car where we were forced to say goodnight. My younger brother was leaving for school when I got home. We had been out all night long! It was our first adventure together!
For the next two weeks we spent as much time as we could together. Philip took me to parties, introduced me to his friends, we kinda crashed a wedding reception, and I even met his parents. We rang in the New Year 2013 together at a party in Downtown Chicago! Before I left to go back to Georgia, I told Philip that I had been planning on moving back to Chicago in May. He seemed excited, which made me happy. While I was in Georgia, we spoke often and would spend time together when I would come in town to see my family. When I moved back to Chicago, we spent the summer of 2013 laughing and going to concerts, parties, pools, and festivals together. We fell hard in love!!
how they asked
Thanksgiving may be my new favorite holiday! I flew out to Nashville to see my family on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Philip was supposed to drive down and meet me in Nashville on Friday or Saturday after spending Thanksgiving with his family in Chicago. Wednesday night I went with my family to Opryland for 1/2 Price Games at Dave and Busters and then too see the Christmas lights. Philip surprised me at Dave and Busters when he showed up at our booth! I was so happy to see him! People at the restaurant asked my mom if Philip was in the military because they could tell we hadn’t seen each other in a long time based on my reaction. The reality: It had been less than 24 hours since we’ve seen each other. Pathetic.
We saw the beautiful lights together, celebrated Thanksgiving together, and hung out at my parents clubhouse together.
After hanging out at the clubhouse, I woke up on Saturday morning needing lots of water and a shower. My family had planned on going Downtown Nashville to shop and have lunch, so we all loaded in the car and hit the road. I wasn’t really paying much attention when we were talking downtown. (I was instagramming) I finally realized we were going to FGL House for lunch! Philip and I had been there over Labor Day with my parents and had the best time dancing (on stage) and partying on the Cruise Rooftop. Oh, I am also obsessed with Florida Georgia Line. We have seen them in concerts three times. Philip always laughs at me when I dance with our dog, Kota, to their music after too many cocktails.
We settled at the large table my dad demanded, near the small stage (I remember thinking- why is he making such a fuss about the table?) Philip wanted to take a selfie with me on the stage. I never turn down a selfie. We took the picture and then I stepped off the stage because people were trying to watch the football games going on behind us. I turned to look at Philip and he was pulling a small box out of his pocket and bending down to one knee. Honestly, I thought it was a joke. Philip has been known to bend down slowly to tie his shoes, or kneel down at romantic places. It’s become quite the inside joke. I knew it was real this time, when he opened the box and there was a really GORGEOUS ring inside. I had to kiss him. I couldn’t help it. He asked, “Will you marry me?” I started to cry and kissed him again. I said, “Of course!” He put the ring on my finger and I fell in love with him all over again. Time stood still and I was the happiest I have ever been! I felt so lucky that he wants to love me forever!
We stood there on stage just consumed with love and he said, “Wait, look who else is here!” ( I thought it was going to be Florida Georgia line, haha ridiculous- I know) Even better, it was his parents! They had driven down from Chicago to be there when Philip proposed. His friend Kevin, flew down to be there too! We celebrated with shots of Old Camp Whiskey! (Florida Georgia Line’s Brand) We found out that Philip was the first person ever to propose at FGL House, which makes our engagement even more special!
We spent the rest of the day in Nashville listening to music, dancing, kissing, and celebrating with our families! It was so awesome to have our parents, my youngest brothers Carter and Chase, and Kevin with us! As the day went on I learned the story of my ring, how my whole family knew (traitors!), and how they asked my dad for permission. Every detail I learned, I fell deeper in love with Philip. Which, I didn’t even know was possible. It makes my heart so happy thinking how much time he spent planning and scheming for me. We have been together for five years and I can’t wait to see what our forever looks like!
