Morgan and Kai

How We Met

We met back in 2011 at a community barbecue, but we didn’t start to get close and become friends until 2014. Kai has always been incredibly patient. He says he liked me from the moment we met, but he wasn’t on my radar until we finally started getting closer in 2015. We tried dating then, but the spark just wasn’t there yet since I was still getting over a pretty serious relationship.

Proposal Ideas Porsche Experience Center

A year later he came to visit for July 4th weekend of 2016. After 3 days of flirting, throwing a party for friends, and enjoying fireworks on the rooftop, the spark was there and the relationship began. Just a year after that, on the same weekend we packed up his apartment in Washington, DC and moved him down here to Atlanta to be closer to his family and to me.

Where to Propose in Porsche Experience Center

how they asked

I’d gone back and forth and spend weeks on the internet trying to decide the best course of action for a proposal. The first plan was to have it in Maui during a trip we were going to take, but then that trip got canceled, so I was back to the drawing board. I’m grateful it worked out that way, because making these memories in the city where we live made it even more special. Because I wanted to do something that was unique and uniquely Atlanta, I reached out to the folks at the Porsche Experience center, and Erin Cloherty was incredibly warm, welcoming and made the whole planning experience fun and a breeze. I can’t say enough positive things about Erin and her team at Porsche.

I planned the day as a scavenger hunt with three stops and four gifts. The first of the gifts was an outfit so that the photos would look great. I delivered the first of the gifts and the first clue to his house at 7am since I couldn’t sleep anymore. The first clue, as with all the other clues had a card with a little rhyme, the time to arrive and a small gift that would make it clear where the clue was pointing to.

The first stop was Revolution Donuts, where we shared a couple of donuts and then I gave him the second clue to a new pedicure place in our neighborhood. While he went off to the pedicure place, I went home to shower and change for the last stop. I met him at the pedicure shop with the third clue that said, “Take your time and make sure you arrive safe, because in no time at all, you’ll be practicing to race. If you find yourself with extra time, please don’t dawdle, be too early, or have a beer, the reasons will soon be abundantly clear.”

When I arrived at the Porsche center, I met with the photographer and Geoff Loudermilk from the Porsche center to make sure everything was set up and ready to go. When Kai finally arrived, with only two minutes to spare based on the time I’d set on the clue, we went to sign the waivers for the driving experience. After that was done we headed down to the Heritage Gallery, where they have several gorgeous vintage Porsches stored. We walked and talked, but for the life of me, I can’t remember what we talked about, probably something about the day or the cars. When we got to the end of the aisle, we stopped, and I gave my speech and then stepped over to the back of a white Targa the Porsche crew had backed in and written, “Kai Will You Marry Me?” on. It was covered with a sheet, so I pulled that off, got on one knee and popped the question, and he said yes.

Morgan and Kai's Engagement in Porsche Experience Center

After the proposal, we hugged, took lots of photos then did the amazing driving experience in a Cayenne, which is an offroad driving experience, and then switched to the 911 Carerra that I drove around the track and on some obstacles. When we finished that they had champagne waiting for us, and even strangers came up to congratulate us. We finished the day with dinner in the restaurant upstairs overlooking the track. It was an incredible day, and I don’t think I would change a thing. I owe so many thanks to Erin, Geoff, Asha and the whole crew at the Porsche Experience center who made it one of the best days of my life.

Special Thanks
