Morgan and Jason
How We Met
Jason and I met in 2014 at Stagecoach, the country music festival in Indio, California. We are both huge country music fans, so it’s only fitting that our story started here. At the time, I was living in Las Vegas and Jason was living in Seattle, and because he went to college in Las Vegas, we met through mutual friends. Upon our introduction, I was immediately disappointed to find out he lived in Seattle, but after the festival, we exchanged phone numbers anyway. We figured that had to suffice. We spent months getting to know each other through text messages, phone calls, and FaceTime dates. After two months of our “virtual” relationship, we decided it was time to visit each other. I made the brave decision to go to Seattle and spend the weekend with him – and it was the best decision I ever made. We spent an amazing weekend together and we both knew right away that another visit would need to be scheduled. After one year of traveling back and forth from Vegas to Seattle, and weekend adventures in many different cities in between (our friends called us “vacation-daters”), we knew it was time to live in the same city. As I was ready to move out of Las Vegas and explore a new city, I made the exciting move to Seattle.
how they asked
Before thinking about details, if Jason knew anything about me, he knew he had to have my family and a professional photographer present – the beach would just be a plus. In July, Jason and I planned to spend a weekend in San Clemente with his sister and her boyfriend. We flew into Orange County Thursday evening and stayed at a hotel, but were planning to move to our AirBnB Friday morning where we would spend the rest of the weekend. Thursday evening, Jason’s sister called to let me know we’d be meeting for brunch at 10:30 the next morning. Since Jason and I are early birds, we were ready to go before brunch, so Jason suggested we leave early and go walk on the beach by the restaurant. Little did I know, Jason had this planned all along and a surprise proposal on the beach was right around the corner. We parked at the San Clemente pier, took off our shoes and started walking along the beach. After just a few minutes of walking, Jason abruptly stopped. He immediately started talking about how incredible our relationship is and how much he loves me when he got down on one knee and asked me if I would spend forever with him. Of course, sobbing, I said “YES” (a thousand or so times).
After I had a moment to wrap my head around everything, I look over to see the photographer (also named Morgan) that Jason coordinated with prior to our arrival. Morgan asked if we wanted to take some photos on the pier (and of course I did!), so after a little post-proposal session, he congratulated us and went on his way. But it turns out that another surprise was in store. Jason and I left the beach and headed to our AirBnB to meet his sister and her boyfriend. As I walked in the front door, my adorable 2-year-old niece ran around the corner and yelled “surprise!” and both of our families followed suit. BOTH of our families were there to celebrate with us! I was overwhelmed with happiness and endless tears as we hugged our families and spent the rest of the weekend celebrating at a beautiful house overlooking the water. I couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect proposal.
