How We Met
(From William): We originally met in high school. Monica is two years older than I…so we didn’t know each other very well. Years later, I kept seeing her pop up on social media and I couldn’t get her off my mind, so I asked her out for coffee.
how they asked
(From Monica): We drove up to Mount Bonnell in Austin, Texas for what I believed to be a nursing school graduation celebration with our friends Will & Rylea Sadler (Rylea tricked me). As we walked up the steps, Will started telling me about how he had spoken to my parents and gotten their blessing to marry me. As we turned the corner, I saw a chair set up.
On our second date Will read Genesis 29:20, which says “Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.” Will was committed to being with me even if it meant doing long distance (I was still living in Arizona) and wanted me to know that the hardships would be worth it to him. Our first year of dating we spent more time apart than we did together and it wasn’t by any means easy. Trying to figure out when you can talk on the phone, dealing with time differences, and not being able to see each other for months is hard. He then read the same verse to me and again showed me the commitment he has towards me and our future marriage. He finally washed my feet to symbolize our intent to serve one another during our marriage and got done on his knee and proposed!
