How We Met
Gaspare and I met our first year of college when we lived in the same building. We would see each other around and smile and wave, and I’d think “wow, he’s cute” but that was the extent of our interaction. That is, until right before our sophomore year when we both started hanging out with our mutual friends regularly. Gaspare and I quickly became close friends- we’d hike, spend time in the library, cook together…basically anything we could do to spend time together because we both secretly had crushes on the other. Finally after months of flirting, Gaspare asked me on our first date. We have since graduated college together, adopted a puppy together, travelled across Europe together, and started our careers in a new town together.
how they asked
While on a trip to Kauai with both of our families, I had been complaining about not going to watch a sunset after being there for 3 days. Finally Gaspare looked at me and said, “I’ll take you to see a good sunset tomorrow.” The next evening Gaspare told me to get in the car and we’ll drive to the west side of the island to watch the sunset. As we were walking out to get in the car, my parents and Gaspare’s family followed us out to come with us. I just thought they all wanted to watch the sunset, but little did I know there were some ulterior motives.
When we arrived to the most beautiful, secluded beach, I thought to myself “this would be the perfect place for him to propose, but it’s not happening so let it go!” Trying to not get my hopes up, I distracted myself with family photos and taking in the scenery we were surrounded by. Just as we were about to leave, Gaspare turned to me and said, “Hey, can you grab my GoPro out of my backpack? I want to take a video.” Only when I reached, instead of pulling out his GoPro I pulled out a ring box! In utter disbelief, I watched the love of my life get down on one knee and ask me to be his wife.
