How We Met
David and I both went to West Chester University. At WCU, there is a Miss WCU scholarship pageant and a Mr. WCU competition. I had gotten involved in competing in the Miss WCU during my freshman year. In my sophomore year, I had attended the Mr. WCU competition with a few friends, and David happened to be one of the contestants that year. I was really impressed by his involvement on campus, leadership positions, and talent! He sang and played the piano… so dreamy! He didn’t win, but a few weeks later, his fraternity and my sorority had a social together, so I mustered up the courage to go up to him to tell him how great I thought he was. Well, when I did, he looked at me like I had five heads, so I quickly turned and walked the other way without saying another word. Come to find out later, as soon as I left, he leaned over to his friend and said, “I think I just met the president of my fan club.” How embarrassing!
Fast forward to about a year later, and I was competing in the Miss WCU scholarship pageant for my third and final time. I had finally won this time and was so excited! Little did I know, this time, David was in the audience with a friend to support a friend of theirs that was also competing. I caught David’s eye this time around. He said afterward he couldn’t stop thinking about me because my picture was plastered across campus. So he reached out to one of my sorority sisters he had a class with (who just so happened to also be my roommate) to get my number. He asked me on a date to get frozen yogurt, and we’ve been together ever since!
How They Asked
I had just gotten over the flu, had just wrapped up choreographing the musical at the local high school and had a lot going on, so David came home from work on a Friday and surprised me with flowers and a massage scheduled for the same morning I was coincidentally going to get my nails done with his two sisters. After spending a relaxing morning, I arrived home to find a beautifully written note from David in which he instructed me to get dressed up and ready by a certain time because our friend was going to be picking me up.
Our friend arrived and drove me to WCU’s campus where David was waiting in front of the big castle building where we both first saw each other. He got down on one knee and popped the question! David’s sister’s best friend who is a photographer was hiding in the bushes capturing the moment on camera (and she had just given birth days before!). The three of them walked into town to a restaurant where our families were all waiting to surprise me and celebrate! It was an incredibly special day!
