Michelle and Louis
How We Met
It was my sophomore year of college. I had just went back to school after being out really sick for a week and a half when my sorority sister, Anna, asked if I wanted to go to the movies with some of her friends that night. Now, the last thing I wanted to do was go out with people I never met before when I was getting over being sick, but reluctantly, I went. We get there and she introduces me to her friends and one of them was Lou. I remember that had on a sweatshirt with the hood up that he didn’t take off the whole night, which seemed odd! Lou and I shared a hello and that was about it. We didn’t speak for the rest of the night… probably because all I wanted to do was go home and sleep! But I have to admit, I couldn’t keep my eyes off him. The next day, I got a text from Anna saying “my friend Lou thinks you’re really cute… should I give him your number?!” Of course, I said yes. So, we started texting… and as it turns out, we both admitted that we didn’t want to be at the movies that night (which explains why he looked just as unenthused as I did). But it’s a good thing the both of us went because the rest is history!
how they asked
Every year since I was a little girl, my dad puts up more Christmas lights than you can imagine. And on Black Friday, it has been a family tradition that we have a “house lighting party,” where my whole family and our friends come over for food and drinks and my dad lights up the house for the first time that season. Everyone loves to see all the new additions he makes year after year. But this year, there was something even bigger planned, that only a few people there knew about. So, once my family, Lou’s family and our friends were there, we all went outside for the big Christmas light reveal. After the countdown, the whole house lit up and it was gorgeous! Everyone was clapping, but all I could think was that there was no Christmas music playing like normal. My brother went up to the iPod that’s hooked up to the speakers outside and acted like something was wrong. All of a sudden, the song “Marry Me” by Jason Derulo starts playing and me being my bratty self, starts yelling at my brother saying that this wasn’t Christmas music (of course, not having any idea what was about to happen). All of a sudden, my garage door starts going up and there was a handmade sign that my dad worked so hard on that said “Will You Marry Me?” My heart dropped to the floor, I immediately started hysterically crying, my heart was pounding out of my chest, and Lou takes my hand into my driveway, drops to one knee, tells me how much he loves me and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes and we shared a long hug and kiss, while both crying. I turned around and saw my whole family clapping and cheering, some of them crying just as hard as me because they had no clue this huge surprise was happening either. It was so magical and something straight out of a fairytale. I am such a lucky girl.
