How We Met: Jacob and I have known each other since grade school, we met through his mother who was coincidentally my 5th grade teacher.. little did we know that seven years later we would be a couple from our junior year where we won the senior superlative as “Barbie and Ken” through two years of long distance while Jacob was training and deploying for his job in the Air Force.
Over the past 3 1/2 years he has treated me like a princess and has been there the best he could to support and encourage me in everything I’ve done. We’ve both have learned that the distance is hard, the worry is hard, the sacrifices are hard, but having each other is the greatest gift that God could have given us and we cherish every moment together.
how they asked: It was about week after he had returned home from a deployment, I had just finished school for the semester and to celebrate the ending of a tough first year of nursing school, a fellow student was throwing a BBQ. So, all day Jacob and I were stressing on how to make pasta salad to bring to the party (we don’t cook much)! But while I was the one really stressing over this pasta salad, he had his own reason for being stressed!
We arrive to the party where I had no idea what was going to happen a couple hours later… When the moment came, Jacob has disappeared from the picnic table where we were sitting and suddenly was standing in front of everyone asking me to join him. The first thing I said as I was getting up was “What are you doing?”, he knows I hate being the center of attention!
So I go up any ways or I was forced to go up by the friends he had already warned what he was doing so they could take pictures.
Before I knew it he was on one knee and asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. Of course I said, YES!
