While on a family trip to Colorado, Sam suggested that we get up early just the two of us to go on a hike to see the sunrise. We didn’t think ahead about flashlights and ended up hiking the mountain side in the pitch black. When we got to the top, it was so quiet and calm it felt like we were the only two people in the whole world. As we were patiently waiting for the sun to come up Sam began to talk about all of the adventures we’ve had together and how excited he is for our future. I was so distracted about making sure I was getting a good video of the sunrise, I didn’t even catch on to what was happening… until he said to me, “I can’t wait to start my life with you, let’s get started” and dropped down to one knee. I was so startled I said “what are you doing??” and accidentally dropped my phone (it landed on some rocks, which cracked my phone screen then stopped the video recording). The last thing you can hear on the video before it hits the rocks is, “Michaela, will you marry me?”
I couldn’t believe that something I had been dreaming about for the past 5 years was finally happening, I felt so jittery and excited. I later found out when I asked Sam if he was nervous to propose he said, “I had never felt so calm, that was the easiest thing I have ever done”.
Before we hiked back down the mountain side, we leaned his phone up against a rock and set a photo timer. With a little luck, we were able to snap this photo with the sunrise shining through!
