How We Met

I met Michael during our senior year at UC Santa Barbara. We met through a mutual friend and connected over our love of country music instantaneously! We hung out on occasion and I just always felt so comfortable around him. I honestly never felt nervous talking to him! My last sorority date party was coming up and I did not have a date. My roommates encouraged me to take that “cute guy” I had been talking to. I nervously texted him asking him if he wanted to go with me. I did not hear from him the rest of the day and began freaking out! I was thinking “great, he probably thinks I am being too clingy”! But sure enough that night I got the text back that he would love to go! He had been working in the lab at our university and did not have cell service. Phew!

We had a blast at our Gatsby themed date party. We had a picnic in the park followed by drinks and dancing at a local club. It was truly a magical night! I did not think our relationship would go anywhere after this date party, especially because I was leaving for Mississippi in a few months for school. However, we continued to hang out and our relationship grew. On the night of our graduation from UCSB and our last night in college, Michael pulled me aside and said, “I do not want to tell people I am visiting just a friend this summer, I want to tell them I am visiting my girlfriend”! I immediately said yes and could not believe I was officially dating the sweetest, most genuine guy ever! 5 years later and we are now engaged to be married!

how they asked

Michael and I have been together for 5 years and it is hard to keep surprises from one another at this point! But he pulled off the most amazing proposal ever! He got my sister, Kaitlin, involved and had her contact me to plan a picnic at one of our favorite spots, the Wedge (a beach in Newport Beach, CA), with her boyfriend and mine. We planned all the details – from the food, to what we would wear, even plans after. The morning of, Michael was acting so cool and calm, I truly had no idea the most special day of my life was mere hours away! We get to the beach and I texted my sister to let her know we had arrived. She said she was a few minutes behind us, so Michael and I walked down to the water to enjoy the scenery. As we walked back to our blanket, Michael stopped me and turned me around and said “I have a surprise for you and your sister is not coming!” I was so confused! He then started crying and I immediately knew right then what was happening! He got down on one knee and asked me to be with him for the rest of our lives!
