Christine and Michael
How We Met
Michael and I met almost 10 years ago when we were both 16 and 17. We met on Myspace…YES…Myspace! He saw my photo on his friends profile and thought “i have to know this girl” well one friend request later, hours of phone conversations, and a first date to see Rush Hour 3 lead us down an unforgettable journey that will forever be my favorite adventure!
We have been inseparable since, and I could not imagine anyone else by my side to go on this crazy ride with! He is my biggest supporter, my best friend, my confidant, and my true love and I can’t believe that I get to spend the rest of my life with him!!
how they asked
On November 13, 2016 Michael told me that he would be taking me on a date to South Lake Tahoe to attend a cooking class. I was super excited because I have always wanted to take a cooking class, and what better way to do it then on a beautiful, sunny Sunday morning in South Lake with my love.We hopped in the car at about 9am for the 1.5 hour drive up to the lake. Michael had his GoPro with him, which is not unusual so of course I didn’t question it. Little did I know the surprise and the plans he had in store for this day were far more elaborate then a casual date to a cooking class. As we arrived in the parking lot of our”cooking class” I looked at the building and the large lettering on the building that said “Lake Tahoe International Airport,” I said “we aren’t going to a cooking class are we?” Michael laughed and said”what do you mean” I said “unless helicopters and cooking have recently been combined then I have a feeling we are not cooking.”
Then Michael told me he wanted to surprise me by taking me on a helicopter ride over Lake Tahoe. The butterflies immediately set in knowing that I would be going on a helicopter, it was something neither of us had ever done before and we were both pretty nervous… but for two different reasons. We waited in a little lounge area while Michael prepared his GoPro and I bounced around looking at pictures and feeling excited and nervous for the helicopter ride. When our helicopter arrived we jumped in and put on our headsets, we could hear each other as well as the two pilots. When the helicopter took off I was immediately captured by the beauty surrounding us, to top it off I was holding Michael’s hand, on a gorgeous sunny day, high in the sky and staring out the window at a Lake where Michael and I spent many summers during out 9 years of dating. Little did I know Michael was preparing his GoPro in the corner of the helicopter to capture our proposal. I had my head turned away from Michael when over the headset I heard him say “Baby, this is not the only reason I brought you here today” as I turned to look at him I could see tears in his eyes, and it hit me…OH MY GOSH HE IS PROPOSING!!!
He continued on, and these are the beautiful words he spoke to me, “You don’t know it yet, but today will mark an important date in our lives. 9 years ago at ages 16 and 17 God lead us to each other. The first day we met each other was the day I asked you to be my girlfriend. He has blessed us with so many memories together and the best part of it all is that I got to see you grow into the smart, beautiful, and caring women you are today. I am so lucky to have you in my life and I look forward to making many more memories together. Well, I brought you here not only to create another adventure together, but to do something we’ve been wanting, for a very long time. Baby, I want to be the man to hold you and love you endlessly for the rest of our life, to kiss and love you with all my heart, to have a family and grow old together … will you marry me?”
Trying to fight back tears I replied YES, OF COURSE!!!! After 9 years of dating the love of my life asked me to be his forever in a helicopter over Lake Tahoe and 3 days later as I write this I still have butterflies and am on cloud 9.
After hugging, kissing, and crying we composed ourselves and began to take in the most beautiful moment that has ever happened to either of us. When the helicopter arrived back to the airport I found out that Michael had been planning the proposal for about two weeks and had already been in contact with out pilot Clint. Clint and his copilot took pictures of us enjoying being newly engaged, and capturing our magical moment. I can not thank them enough for some of the most beautiful photos Michael and I have ever taken. The 1.5 hour drive home was spent just in awe of what happened, and realizing that we were officially ENGAGED, we talked about plans for the wedding day, and our future, it was the best 1.5 hour car ride I have ever been on. When we arrived back in town we decided to have lunch at the Olive Garden and as we walked into the restaurant there stood my parents and Michael’s Mom to celebrate our engagement! The highlight of our day was getting to tell all of our closest family and friends about our engagement and just enjoying pure happiness and love. Sunday November 13th, 2016 will forever be imprinted in my mind as the day my future and my forever began with my soul mate Michael Angelo Chavez.
