How We Met
When you ask most couples about their “story”, it usually involves meeting each out at a bar or through close friends. Mike and I met at the adult community where our parents live during a New Years Eve part at the community clubhouse. We instantly hit it off and had a great connection, but it wasn’t too long until Mike had to go back home to Virginia where he lived at the time. We continued to talk and he decided to come back home one weekend so we can see each other again. Instead of a nice dinner and a movie, a blizzard ended up hitting NJ, and we got snowed in with my family for the entire weekend. Since that one weekend, we continued to grow closer and Mike ended up moving back to NJ so we could be together.
how they asked
Mike wanted to do something special for our anniversary, so he planned an evening at Longwood Gardens. We were going to spend some time walking through the gardens before having dinner. Before leaving to go to the gardens, it was extremely hot and humid. I suggested that we do something else to celebrate, but he was pretty set on keeping our plans. As we were driving there, it suddenly started down pouring and we hit several thunderstorms along the way. The gardens were closed when we arrived but reopened a half hour later.
After about an hour of walking around, we stopped at an area of the gardens with a big rolling field. We walked out into the field when he took my hand and told me how much he loved me and promises to take care of me and love me for the rest of his life. He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
That’s when Carmen and his wife from Ringshot Photography came out and started taking pictures. Little did I know, they were there the whole time. After spending some time taking picture with them, we started walking to the restaurant for dinner. As we were walking up the path to the restaurant, we family and Mike’s family were standing in the front cheering and running up to hug us. Carmen and his wife were also there to capture the moment.
Even with all the rain and storms, the night turned out perfectly.
