How We Met
Even though it was my biggest prayer, I never thought I would meet someone at such a young age, so it was a big surprise meeting Christian during my freshman year of college. Fun fact, I had an imaginary friend named Christian when I was little according to my parents. We met at a college ministry at The Ohio State University called CRU. I stalked him on Instagram for a while… He is the cute hipster, former football star, musician type and I was obviously crushing hard!
One day we finally exchanged a few messages through Instagram (yes I slid into his DMs) and realized we would both be at CRU’s Superbowl party that next day. We had a brief chat that didn’t say much more than a “hello”. I went home excited, but tried not to get my hopes up because he seemed too good to be true! He texted me the next day and asked if I wanted to get coffee. I found out later that he really wanted to ask me to get coffee in person, but he didn’t know when he would see me next, so sweet. We ended up getting coffee for more than four hours and it was an instant connection.
It was so evident that the many commonalities such as faith, music, photography, family, and food were shared for a special reason. I could have sat there and talked to him forever. When I was awaiting a text from him later, hoping he would follow up after our “date” so I didn’t have to, he sent me something that made my heart sink… I couldn’t see the full text on my lock screen, so before I could see what he said, all I read was, “So this semester I’ve been trying to…” and I thought for sure he was gonna let me down easy.
The full text actually read, “So this semester I’ve been trying to work on eating healthier and I just ate 5 KRISPY KREME DONUTS…” and that is when I knew I was gonna marry him. Just kidding, but on a real note, he has pursued me like no other, loves me and points me towards Jesus, supports me in everything I do, and is truly my best friend. Even though nobody will ever be perfect, I am in awe at how amazing he is and that God gave me so much more than I ever prayed for. In this crazy world, it is so nice to know that no matter what, he is by my side. I can’t wait to make music and capture memories on our cameras together forever and grow old with my favorite person in the universe.
How They Asked
Christian and I went on a trip to Colorado to visit his brother and sister-in-law in August. I had really hoped he would propose there, but I didn’t want to get my hopes up! I am very hard to surprise and very impatient so I am super impressed he was able to pull this off. The ring was done just in time for him to have it for our trip. He literally almost didn’t have the ring in time and that would have changed a lot of his plans! I found out later that he was nervous going through airport security because he was afraid they would find the ring and not know what it was because of the non-traditional box he used. The “box” looked like a wooden camera lens, a nod to my love of photography and I had never seen anything like it. Anyways, I was totally thrown off because I thought if he proposed that he would wait until the last day. We hiked and toured Colorado our first day and I really didn’t suspect anything until I was told that we were gonna go out to a nice dinner and that I should dress up nice.
They also told me that we were gonna go fly his drone before dinner in our nice clothes, so I was getting pretty suspicious but I still had no clue! We drove to a beautiful spot in the mountains where he and his brother had gotten up super early to go to that morning so they could find the perfect spot. We talked about our future while we walked to this sweet little pond tucked away in the mountains and he told me how much he loved me. I was waiting for him to fly his drone, but little did I know, he was never going to fly his drone, he just needed his drone bag to hold the ring! He pulled out the most beautiful box and got down on one knee with my dream ring!
After I said yes, I realized there was a photographer there to capture it all. Christian’s brother and sister in law bought us an engagement session so we got to take a ton of really cool pictures! As a photographer, I was on cloud 9 because I always dreamed of pictures like that! We had a nice dinner together that night and enjoyed the rest of our trip as an engaged couple! I couldn’t have asked for anything better. It still doesn’t feel real!
