Meredith and Chad (and their beautiful Minted Stationery)
Our friends at Minted are back at it with another love story from one of their oh-so sweet couples (if you missed the first two, here’s the first and the second)! A lot of you ask for updates and wedding details on the couples we feature, so we’ve been excited to have Minted, one of our favorite companies for stationery and other wedding paper goods, help us with it!
Oh and if you’re wanting to use Minted yourself, they’re giving HowTheyAsked readers 20% off your first wedding purchase, using the code HHAWED20. Or, if you want to get samples, use the code HHA10FREE to receive $10 credits. Both are valid through 2/29/2016!
How we met
Chad and I met online. Both of us were moving to Des Moines, IA (I was coming home from college and he got a new job). We had both been on a few dates and were ready to call it quits when we met each other. We hit it off right away. Almost 5 and a half years later we are now happily married (see some of our Minted wedding details below!)
how they asked
Chad and I had an inside joke that if we didn’t get engaged by the end of 2014 it was time to move on. All of our friends and family always asked why we weren’t married yet, so we gave each other a hard time too. However, Chad is a procrastinator so I always joked he could have till the end of January. On January 31st of 2015 (last day of January), Chad had set up dinner at the restaurant of where we had our first date. I didn’t think anything of it. We go there all the time, and I just thought he was really craving sushi.
Well earlier that evening a snow storm hit Iowa, and I was trying everything in my power to convince Chad we could just order pizza. He made up a story that we were going to meet friends afterwards though, so I gave in and went to dinner. After dinner we walked outside, and I saw my brother sitting at a table at the restaurant next door. Then I realized there were other family members there too. I turned around, confused, and Chad was down on one knee. I was completely surprised.
I always told him I didn’t want to get engaged in front of a crowd but he knew my family was very important to me. This was the perfect way so they could all see but not hear.
The best part is he wore the same outfit he wore on our first date, even down to the socks we had an inside joke about. With the snow falling, it was beautiful. We then got to go inside and enjoy the evening with about 30 family and friends.
Our experience with Minted
I had ordered some samples through other invitation places and they were not what I wanted or expected. Then I saw Minted’s ad in a magazine and thought I would give it a try!
I was looking for an art deco/Gatsby type design and I knew it needed gold foil on it. I figured that would limit the options, but it truly didn’t with Minted.
When I found the exact style I wanted, I had a few wording and organizational changes I wanted to be made and I simply put those instructions in my order and they handled it all. They send you proofs of everything you order and are more than happy to make changes. It was so easy and honestly, the hardest part was picking the invite with so many to choose from! See everything below!
