How We Met
Austin and I met in college – we both attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. There was a back to school function at the start of my sophomore year for a campus ministry I had just joined, and he was there as a member from years past. We had a lot of mutual friends, so throughout the following semester we spent a lot of time together. Before Fall semester ended, Austin told me how he had developed feelings for me, and we started dating the following January when we returned to school. It was over that winter break that Austin told a good friend from home that he had met the woman he was going to marry. It took me a few months longer, but soon I realized that he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. We only had to wait two-and-a-half more years before he would officially get down on one knee.
how they asked
I am spending this summer working for Kennicott Glacier Lodge in Kennecott, Alaska, which is located in the middle of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Austin, along with our parents and his aunt and uncle, came up to visit over Fourth of July weekend. During this time, our families went on a guided glacier hike put on by St. Elias Alpine Guides. While out on Root Glacier, Austin and I were up on a ridge when he got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever. We were completely surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountains I have ever seen, as well as some of the most important people in our lives. A storm had come in shortly before while we were out on the glacier, and we were tired and freezing from the cold Alaskan weather. However, even with those factors in play, the moment itself could not have been more perfect. In my wildest dreams, I could not have imagined a more perfect setting or a more perfect man before me. We are thrilled to begin this next chapter in our relationship, as we are one step closer to the marriage we have been thinking about since we first started dating.
