Engagement Proposal Ideas in Metropolitan Museum of Art

How We Met

Both working over 60 hours a week in New York City, Matt and I decided to give app dating a try. As a foreigner, being new in the city, not having my family and many friends, I liked the idea of meeting new people. After exchanging a few text messages, we found out that we were neighbors! And finally, he asked me out for a coffee date in our neighborhood. Never thought one coffee date would change my life forever. Matt told me that, the reason why he wanted to have coffee instead of drink was that I was Muslim and he didn’t know if I drink or not. He was very sweet and considerate right from the start. It was amazing how we clicked immediately and had so much in common. I felt very comfortable talking to him all night. Even though, we were only dating for a few months, we established a strong friendship in such a short time and couldn’t stop loving each other since!

How They Asked

It was 2 days before Thanksgiving & Matt had planned a date night at a Michelin star restaurant in the Upper East Side. Before we arrived at the restaurant, he told me he wanted to take me for a romantic tour of my favorite museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As I have a keen interest in impressionist art and have painted many Monet replicas, he suggested we should head to the Monet section. While in front of my favorite painting, he told me that he had a gift for me. I was so excited thinking I was getting an early Christmas present. He continued, “This gift is a representation of my love and I would like you to know that I want to spend my whole life with you…”

With that, he dropped to one knee, revealed the box he’d been nervously hiding all night long, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Of COURSE, I accepted. I was shaking as we held hands and had tears in my eyes as I said YES to the love of my life with my favorite painting right next to us. Everybody at the museum was cheering, clapping, and taking pictures of us. The proposal was so cozy, intimate, and natural.

To my best friend and fiancé, thank you for making me the happiest woman on earth and for planning the most romantic proposal! There is no place more ‘New York,’ more sophisticated, and more us than Metropolitan Museum of Art. I was so excited that this was the place you wanted to start the next chapter of our lives. Everything was beyond perfect and I will remember it for the rest of my life!

Special Thanks
