how we met
We met as many do in Athens, GA- at our favorite music venue and dive bar! We kept running into one another nonstop, and eventually Melody caved and gave Blake her phone number.
how they asked
Oh, boy. Blake and I decided to visit New Orleans for my birthday, Halloween, and see one of our favorite bands, Widespread Panic. I had never been to NOLA before and we made it happen. On the trip I told Blake about a photo taken of my Dad in the eighties when he and my mom came for the Sugar Bowl from Atlanta. He is standing in front of a street sign in the French Quarter with a rose in his teeth and is giving the camera the bird. It’s one of my favorites, as it perfectly encapsulates his wild, take-no-sh*t, attitude in a goofy way. We ended up riding into New Orleans on the very street where the pictures was taken, Toulouse St. I told him I wanted to visit the very spot the picture was taken, to stand where he stood.Well, after dinner on the first day, he took me to find the spot. It was Halloween in New Orleans, absolute mayhem! When we got to the intersection I was eyeing the street signs and the businesses behind them to see if it was the same spot as in the picture. We stood underneath Toulouse and Bourbon and I gazed around taking it in. Blake took me by the hands and told me that he had planned to “do this” at the Butterfly Garden in the Audubon Nature Institute the next day, but that it seemed too perfect not to propose right there. He got down on one knee on the sidewalk underneath the street sign and proposed. A group of girls behind us started screaming and horns started honking. It was magical and surreal and perfectly imperfect in our own unique way.
