Melissa and Travis

How We Met

Travis and I actually met by total accident. I was going to meet an old friend I hadn’t seen in a while and he was at Travis’s house so by chance I went over to see him and that night met Travis. I knew from the second I met him that I wanted to know him better just because he already seemed so kind and giving and loving towards all of his friends.

I took every chance I could get to see him after that and we didn’t start actually seeing each other as more than friends for about a month later but by that time I already pretty much knew that he was the one.

how they asked

Travis and I had been dating for a little over a year and had been talking about getting engaged for a while. We were both so excited but wanted to be smart about it since we are both young. We are insanely close and we share everything with each other, so I knew when big steps were being made (talking to my dad, buying the ring). We had plans to attend the White-house Picnic on a Thursday, and I knew that he wanted to bring me as his fiance not just his girlfriend. As the time til the picnic got shorter I got more and more antsy and excited, constantly being prepared just in case it happened.

The Saturday before we had plans to go to my parents for lunch and on the way inside his parents called us and said they had a ‘fundraising lunch’ in the neighborhood and wanted to drop by and say hi to all of us. Me, being oblivious, thought nothing of it. Both of our parents followed Travis and I into my family’s home and as I started to show them around I noticed a bouquet of roses and a letter with my name on it.

I started crying before I even read the letter detailing our relationship and his hopes for our future. At the end, he stated the only thing that would make him happier than all that would be if I turned around and when I did he was on one knee, asking me to marry him. It couldn’t have been more special, surrounded by those we love most in the place I love most.
